    1. Specialist: Systems Engineer (Mainframe)

    Job Overview

    The Specialist: Systems Engineer (Mainframe) will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of SARS’s mainframe environment. This involves implementing, configuring, and maintaining both hardware and software on the mainframe. The position is particularly focused on z15 hardware and z/OS software, making it essential for the individual to be well-versed in various technical areas such as system architecture, R&D, installations, disaster recovery, and third-party product integrations.

    Job Location: SARS Brooklyn office

    Job Responsibilities

    The mainframe environment is integral to the running of SARS’s critical business functions. The role of the Specialist: Systems Engineer will require coordination, programming, installation, and management of the system hardware and software architectures within the organisation. Key responsibilities include:

    • Configuration and debugging of multiple infrastructure platforms.
    • Management of third-party product installations and lifecycle, ensuring they integrate seamlessly into the SARS ecosystem.
    • Ensuring system connectivity, availability, and performance across production and non-production environments.
    • Performing disaster recovery and storage management, essential for maintaining data integrity and business continuity.
    • Liaising with internal teams for problem resolution, ensuring smooth functioning across all systems.

    Education and Experience

    Minimum Qualification:

    • A Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF 7) in Information Technology, coupled with 5-7 years of experience in a similar role, of which 2-3 years must be at a functional specialist level.

    Alternatively:

    • A Senior Certificate (NQF 4) with 10 years of related experience in mainframe systems.

    Key Technical Skills

    • z/OS Operating System and its subsystems
    • SMP/E, HCD, RMF, TCP/IP networking protocols
    • BMC Control products, CICS, MQ
    • Storage Management (DFSMS/DFSMShsm)
    • Disaster recovery and business continuity planning

    2. Head of Communications and Marketing

    Job Overview

    The role of Head of Communications and Marketing at SARS is critical in shaping and enhancing the organisation’s public image. This position requires a strategic thinker with extensive experience in communications, public relations, reputation management, and marketing. The individual will be responsible for formulating and executing a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy aligned with SARS’s vision and operational goals.

    Job Location: SARS Brooklyn, Head Office in Pretoria

    Job Responsibilities

    The Head of Communications and Marketing will lead a dynamic team responsible for both internal and external communication efforts at SARS. Some of the key tasks include:

    • Strategy Development: Formulating and implementing a multi-year communication and marketing strategy that supports the delivery of SARS’s mandate.
    • Reputation Management: Managing SARS’s public image, including crisis communication, and developing strategies to mitigate potential issues.
    • Digital and Social Media Management: Overseeing all digital communication channels, including social media and website content, and developing strategies to enhance SARS’s online presence.
    • Internal and External Communication: Ensuring seamless integration between internal and external communication efforts, aligning with operational strategies.
    • Partnerships and Stakeholder Relations: Building strong relationships with internal divisions, government departments, and external stakeholders.

    Education and Experience

    Minimum Qualification:

    • A Master’s or Honours degree in Communications or Marketing with 8-12 years of relevant experience, of which at least 5 years must be at senior management level.

    Alternatively:

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Communications or Marketing with at least 12 years of relevant experience, including 5 years at a senior management level.

    Key Skills

    • Expertise in Public Relations, Crisis Management, Business Writing, and Marketing.
    • Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
    • Proficiency in Digital and Social Media Strategies.
    • Ability to manage Public Speaking, Campaign Development, and Event Management.
    • Strategic communication and marketing skills to align campaigns with SARS’s vision and operational goals.

    Behavioural Competencies

    • Accountability and Transparency: Ensuring that communications and marketing efforts align with the organisation’s values of fairness, integrity, and trust.
    • Leadership: Inspiring, motivating, and developing teams, while managing a collaborative stakeholder environment.
    • Problem Solving: Analysing trends and campaign results to adjust strategies for optimal effectiveness.
