    A Pathway to Excellence: Young Professional-in-Training Programme

    Transnet, a leading South African state-owned company, has launched its Young Professional-in-Training Programme, aimed at developing a talent pool for key roles within Transnet Port Terminals (TPT). This structured 24-month training initiative offers a unique opportunity for aspiring professionals to embark on a journey that aligns with their academic backgrounds, career aspirations, and Transnet’s business requirements.


    Youth Professional-in-Training Programme Overview

    Position Title: Young Professional-in-Training
    Department: People Management
    Location: Durban
    Reporting To: Capacity Building Manager
    Grade Level: GRAD_6
    Reference Number: 203459

    The Young Professional-in-Training Programme is designed to provide trainees with a solid foundation and a comprehensive understanding of their respective fields within Transnet Port Terminals. This programme seeks to prepare young professionals for future leadership roles by offering them real-world experience, structured training, performance assessments, and mentorship. Participants will work under the guidance of experienced mentors and receive regular feedback to aid their development.

    Key Program Outputs

    1. Structured Training Programme: Participants will follow a carefully structured training programme tailored to their areas of expertise and Transnet’s operational needs. This hands-on approach ensures trainees gain practical experience alongside theoretical knowledge.
    2. Performance Reviews: Performance reviews and assessments will be conducted every six months, allowing trainees to monitor their progress and identify areas for improvement.
    3. Monthly Reports: Participants are required to submit monthly reports detailing their activities, accomplishments, and challenges, fostering accountability and transparency.
    4. Duties and Responsibilities: Trainees will be expected to perform all duties outlined in their development programme, as well as any tasks that Transnet Port Terminals deems necessary to fulfill its mission.

    Qualifications and Experience for the Young Professional-in-Training Programme

    Corporate Affairs:

    • ND in Digital Marketing, Public Relations, or Communications

    Continuous Improvement:

    • ND or Degree in Industrial Engineering

    Competencies:

    • Above-average computer skills
    • Effective verbal and written communication
    • Strong administrative and organizational skills, with the ability to multitask
    • Proficiency in conducting research
    • The ability to work effectively within a team environment
    • Good interpersonal skills
    • A professional attitude and a willingness to learn
    • Strong time management skills
