    Available Department of Health Vacancies

    Director: Affordable Medicine

    Director: Affordable Medicine (Ref No: NDOH 12/2023) in the Directorate of Affordable Medicine. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring access to affordable and quality medicine for all. With a salary of R1,105,383 per annum, the position offers a competitive remuneration package.     Requirements and qualifications

    • An appropriate recognized Bachelor’s degree (NQF 7) in Pharmacy or equivalent NQF 7 qualification in Pharmacy.
    • A postgraduate qualification in the relevant field will be advantageous.
    • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a middle management position.
    • Experience should include Financial and HR Management, policy development and analysis, preparation of legislation, and monitoring and evaluation.
    • Extensive knowledge of relevant national regulations and policies within the pharmaceutical industry, as well as the Health Act, PFMA, and Procurement policies.
    • Extensive knowledge of human resources, the Public Service Act, and Public Service Regulation.
    • Extensive knowledge of strategies regarding the pharmaceutical industry and procurement of pharmaceutical products and technologies.
    • Good communication (verbal and written), leadership, analytical, problem-solving, facilitation, monitoring and evaluation, research, and computer skills (MS Office package).
    • Ability to work independently and as a team player.
    • A valid driver’s license.
    • SMS pre-entry Certificate required for appointment finalisation.

    Summary of duties

    • Governance, policy, and oversight over pharmaceutical services.
    • Manage the National Pharmaceutical Services Committee.
    • Ensure access to quality and cost-effective essential medicines.
    • Manage the review of the Essential Medicines List (EML) for different levels of care.
    • Manage contracting and supply of medicines.
    • Implement strategies for medicine availability and antimicrobial resistance.
    • Support implementation of medicine information systems and data management.
    • Manage budget for health information systems and NHI preparation.
    • Manage licensing of pharmaceutical premises and authorized prescribers.
    • Develop and implement risk management plan.

     

    Deputy Director: ICT Security

    Deputy Director: ICT Security (Ref No: NDOH 14/2023) in the Chief-Directorate of Information and Communication Technology. This role involves safeguarding the department’s information and communication systems and ensuring the security and privacy of sensitive data.     Requirements and qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree/National Diploma (NQF 6) in Information Technology/Information Systems/Computer Systems qualification recognized by SAQA.
    • ITIL, CompTIA Security+/ISO 27001, or equivalent IT security certificate will be advantageous.
    • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the Information Technology environment at the level of Assistant Director or an equivalent position.
    • Knowledge of IT service management (ITIL), configuration, availability and capacity management, ICT network (WAN and LAN technology), IT infrastructure lifecycle management, IT infrastructure auditing, and WAN/LAN network rollout IT security.
    • Proficient in managing Linux and Microsoft OS-based systems, project management, and system administration skills.
    • Ability to work independently and in a team, good communicator, proactive, and willing to work irregular hours.

    Summary of duties

    • Manage IT service management, configuration, and capacity management.
    • Oversee ICT network (WAN and LAN technology) and IT infrastructure.
    • Ensure IT infrastructure lifecycle management, auditing, and security.
    • Manage Linux and Microsoft OS-based systems, project management, and system administration.
    • Work independently and in a team, communicate effectively, and be proactive.

     

    Assistant Director: Travel and Accommodation

    For those interested in supply chain management, the Department of Health has an opening for the position of Assistant Director: Travel and Accommodation (Ref No: NDOH 15/2023) in the Directorate of Supply Chain Management. This role focuses on managing travel arrangements and accommodation logistics efficiently. The salary for this position is R424,104 per annum, with competitive benefits.     Requirements and qualifications

    • Three-year National Diploma or equivalent NQF 6 qualifications in Finance/Accounting/Supply Chain Management/Travel and Transport Logistics and/or Logistics Management.
    • A degree (NQF 7) will be advantageous.
    • Minimum of three (3) years’ relevant experience in the travel and accommodation field at the supervisory level and overall Travel and Accommodation Management.
    • Knowledge of Government Transport policies and Circular Financial Delegations, travel and transport logistics, transversal systems (Logis & BAS), PFMA, Public Service Act/Regulations, and Treasury policies and prescripts.
    • Good communication (verbal and written), job knowledge, interpersonal relations, conflict management, emotional intelligence, time management, leadership, and computer skills (MS Office packages).

    Summary of duties

    • Reconcile travel statements and verify invoices for payment.
    • Resolve disputes and manage travel administration.
    • Monitor travel services and stakeholder relations.
    • Manage the travel agency and human resources.
    • Ensure compliance with the Departmental Transport Policy.
    • Collect and authenticate information for financial statements and oversight bodies.

     

    Radiographer Grade 1

    The department is also seeking a Radiographer Grade 1 (Ref No: NDOH 13/2023) for the Medical Bureau for Occupational Diseases. This position, based in Johannesburg, offers a salary range of R359,622 to R408,201 per annum, commensurate with the Occupational Specific Dispensation (OSD).     Requirements and qualifications

    • National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Diagnostic Radiography.
    • Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Diagnostic Radiographer.
    • Minimum of one (1) year relevant experience as a Diagnostic Radiographer after registration with the HPCSA.
    • Knowledge of diagnostic procedures, radiation protection and safety, quality control (QC), quality assurance (QA), and correct KVP and MAS selection.
    • Familiarity with quality control, ALARA principles, Public Service Regulations, general radiological process management, health and safety policies, national and provincial policies, provisioning and procurement procedures, departmental training and facilities, and basic levels of pattern recognition.
    • Good communication (verbal and written), presentation, planning, organizing, problem-solving, decision-making, conflict and personnel management skills.
    • Ability to treat patients with empathy and according to department protocols on patient support and Batho Pele Principals.

    Summary of duties

    • Ensure quality radiographic work and service delivery.
    • Register patients and compile statistical reports.
    • Provide awareness, training, and support on benefit medical examinations.
    • Perform administrative duties and quality control tests.
    • Assist with processing and verifying benefit medical examination applications.
    • Manage risk and audit queries while ensuring radiation safety.

     

    Senior Internal Auditor

    The Chief-Directorate of Internal Audit and Risk Management is offering two positions for Senior Internal Auditors (Ref No: NDOH 18/2023). These positions are on a three-year contract and provide a salary of R359,517 per annum, along with competitive benefits.     Requirements and qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree/National Diploma (NQF 6) in Accounting/Internal Auditing qualification recognized by SAQA.
    • Completion of the Internal Audit Technician (IAT) program and membership in the Institute of Internal Auditors.
    • Completion of the Professional Internal Audit (PIA) program will be advantageous.
    • Knowledge of the Constitution of the RSA, 1996, PFMA, Treasury Regulation, Public Service Act, 1994, Public Service Regulation, 2016, and public service policies and procedures.
    • Understanding and implementation of the audit process, internal auditing, risk management, and accounting.
    • Good communication (written and verbal), supervisory, analytical, report writing, and computer literacy (Microsoft Office package) skills.
    • Ability to follow a proactive and creative problem-solving approach.
    • A valid driver’s license.

    Summary of duties

    • Contribute to the development of strategic internal audit plans.
    • Identify key risk areas and develop risk-based internal audit plans.
    • Evaluate control objectives and develop engagement work programs.
    • Collect and analyse data, compile reports, and monitor progress.
    • Manage risk and report risks related to the area of responsibility.

     

    Human Resource Practitioner

    The Department of Health is looking for a Human Resource Practitioner (Ref No: NDOH 16/2023) in the Directorate of Human Resource Administration. The successful candidate will contribute to the department’s workforce management and development. The salary for this position is R294,321 per annum, accompanied by competitive benefits.     Requirements and qualifications

    • National Diploma (NQF 6) in Human Resource Management recognized by SAQA.
    • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the Human Resource Management field.

    • Sound and in-depth knowledge of relevant prescripts, application of human resources, Health Act, and Regulations.
    • Good communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, problem-solving, analytical, client-oriented, organizing, and computer literacy skills.
    • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
    • A valid driver’s license.

    Summary of duties

    • Expedite vacancy filling and oversee recruitment and selection process.
    • Coordinate post-interview processes and submit recommendations.
    • Provide advice on policy and legislative requirements.
    • Maintain and update vacancy data and statistics.
    • Assist in the development and review of HR plans, policies, and guidelines.
    • Conduct information sessions and presentations.
