Job Responsibilities
As a General Worker, you will assist in the operation and maintenance of the Karoo site. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Inspecting and Maintaining Infrastructure: Regularly check and repair fences, gates, windmills, dams, and farm roads.
- Operating Equipment: Handle heavy and light machinery, including the Honey Sucker, for various tasks.
- Trench Work and Tree Trimming: Dig trenches and trim trees to maintain clear paths and safety.
- Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance: Clean and perform maintenance on all vehicles and equipment.
- Power Line and Waste Management: Assist in maintaining power lines and managing waste disposal.
- Fencing and Graveyard Maintenance: Install and repair fences; upkeep graveyards by keeping them clean and orderly.
- Garden and Orchard Care: Maintain and nurture gardens and orchards, including watering, weeding, and pruning.
- Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and wear PPE; report hazards promptly.
- Supporting Scientific Operations: Assist scientific teams with basic tasks related to research activities.
- Training Participation: Engage in training programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Community Outreach: Participate in educational and community support programs.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and equipment usage.
- Team Collaboration: Work effectively with team members to ensure efficient task completion.

Key Requirements
- Minimum: Grade 10
- Driver’s license (advantageous)
- At least 2 years of experience as a general worker in construction or farming.
Knowledge and Skills
- Familiarity with safety procedures.
- Ability to operate common hand tools (both electrical and mechanical).
- Comfortable working at heights and lifting heavy objects.
- Ability to follow instructions and perform tasks with minimal supervision.
- Physically and mentally fit to handle strenuous tasks.
- Safety-oriented, sober habits, trustworthy, and reliable.
