Social Worker Job Purpose
The primary purpose of this role is to provide comprehensive social work services in the Eden Karoo Region. As a social worker in this position, you will play a crucial role in promoting social change, facilitating problem-solving in human relationships, and empowering individuals, families, and communities to improve their social well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Service Delivery: Provide social work services concerning the care, support, protection, and development of vulnerable individuals, groups, families, and communities. This includes case work, group work, and community work.
- Crisis Intervention: Address issues arising from social instability and provide appropriate interventions.
- Supervision and Support: Oversee and support social auxiliary workers, ensuring effective service delivery.
- Professional Development: Stay updated with the latest developments in social work and social welfare.
- Administrative Duties: Perform all necessary administrative tasks related to the role.

To succeed in this role, you should possess the following:
- A solid understanding of relevant legislation, policy, and prescripts, including norms and standards.
- Knowledge of the supervision framework for social workers.

Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this position, you must meet the following criteria:
- A formal tertiary qualification in Social Work (Bachelor of Social Work) that qualifies you for professional registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).
- Registration with the SACSSP as a Social Worker.
- Experience requirements vary by grade:
- Grade 1: No experience required.
- Grade 2: A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
- Grade 3: A minimum of 20 years of relevant experience.
- Grade 4: A minimum of 30 years of relevant experience.
- A valid driving license (Code B or higher) is recommended. However, individuals with disabilities that restrict driving abilities but have reasonable access to transport are also encouraged to apply.
Salary and Benefits
The Western Cape Government offers a competitive remuneration package based on the Occupational Specific Dispensation (OSD) framework, inclusive of all costs related to service benefits or obligations. The salary range is as follows:
- Grade 1: R308,247 – R362,439 per annum
- Grade 2: R376,417 – R436,014 per annum
- Grade 3: R452,667 – R532,113 per annum
- Grade 4: R554,919 – R687,918 per annum
The remuneration package includes a basic salary, a 13th cheque, medical and housing assistance, and pension fund contributions.
