    About the Accounting Practitioner Role

    The Accounting Practitioner will play a pivotal role in supporting various departments and entities within the Western Cape Government. This role involves implementing accounting frameworks, compiling consolidated financial information, and ensuring that the province’s financial position is accurately represented.

    Key Responsibilities

    As an Accounting Practitioner, your main duties will include:

    • Implementation of Accounting Frameworks: Assist and advise on implementing accounting frameworks in line with the Modified Cash Standard and Generally Recognised Accounting Practice (GRAP).
    • Training and Development: Develop, assess, and revise training material on accounting frameworks and provide training sessions to relevant departments and entities.
    • Compliance Reporting: Gather information for monthly and quarterly compliance reports and provide feedback to various stakeholders.
    • Research and Advisory: Conduct research on accounting-related issues and offer solutions to stakeholders based on findings.
    • Financial Assessments: Evaluate the Interim Financial Statements (IFS) and Annual Financial Statements (AFS) of various departments and entities to ensure compliance with established standards.

    Minimum Requirements

    To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

    • A relevant 3-year B-Degree or higher qualification in Accounting.
    • At least 3 years of experience in accounting practices within a finance department.
    • A valid Code B or higher driving licence.

    Preferred Qualifications

    While not mandatory, the following qualification is recommended and will be considered advantageous:

    • A postgraduate qualification in Accounting.

    Competencies and Skills

    The ideal candidate will possess:

    • In-depth knowledge of accounting frameworks, including the Standard Chart of Accounts (SCOA) and public sector accounting processes.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
    • Proficiency in report writing and the ability to interpret numerical data effectively.
    • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

    Remuneration and Benefits

    The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary of R 444,036 per annum (Salary level 9). Additionally, service benefits or obligations such as medical assistance, housing assistance, and pension-fund contributions will be provided in accordance with the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.
