Assistant Asset Officer Position Details

  • Job Title: Assistant Asset Officer
  • Grade: Paterson Grade B3
  • Remuneration Package: R278,131 per annum (Cost to Council)
  • Location: South Africa

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Grade 12 with Accounting, plus an N6 Certificate OR National Higher Certificate in Accounting/Financial Accounting.
  • At least one year of finance-related work experience.

Competency Requirements

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Effective planning and organizational skills to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word

Key Responsibilities

As an Assistant Asset Officer, the selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring efficient asset management. The key duties include:

Fixed Asset Management

  • Ensure fixed assets are correctly classified, capitalized, and recorded in the fixed asset register.
  • Identify and correct misallocated fixed asset transactions.
  • Barcode all new fixed assets and maintain records.
  • Conduct physical verification of assets.

Asset Maintenance & Reporting

  • Update door list records and ensure verification by relevant employees.
  • Identify and report impaired fixed assets.
  • Ensure that all required updates are reflected in the fixed asset register.
  • Maintain a list of assets that are unused or have zero value.
  • Ensure that asset registers are timely updated after asset disposal.

Financial & Administrative Tasks

  • Prepare and record asset disposal journals.
  • Compile monthly staff canteen and staff telephone reports.
  • Capture and process approved payments on the bank system.
  • Perform ad-hoc duties as assigned by the Head of Department or any delegated official.
