    Job Requirements

    To qualify for the Assistant Process Controller position, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

    Educational Qualifications

    • Grade 12, preferably with Mathematics and Physical Science as passed subjects, or
    • Equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification, or
    • Relevant NTC III certificate, or
    • Completed trade-related learnership (NQF 2 level).

    Work Experience

    • Up to one year of relevant experience in a Water Treatment Plant or Reservoir.

    Physical and Practical Abilities

    • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
    • Willingness to work shifts on a roster basis.
    • Available for emergency overtime and willing to work in all weather conditions.

    Additional Advantages

    • A valid Code B driver’s license (advantageous but not mandatory).

    Key Performance Areas (Responsibilities)

    As an Assistant Process Controller, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation of water treatment processes. Your responsibilities will include:

    1. Monitoring & Testing

    • Conduct visual inspections of water treatment systems.
    • Check and record system readings.
    • Perform chlorine residual tests and other water quality analyses.
    • Collect water samples for laboratory testing.

    2. Equipment Operation & Chemical Handling

    • Use handheld tools to operate large pumps and blowers.
    • Dose and mix chemicals for water treatment.
    • Monitor and replace chlorine drums to maintain chlorine supply.
    • Control valves and sluice gates to regulate water levels in dams.

    3. Maintenance & Housekeeping

    • Perform cleaning and maintenance duties to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Participate in safety programs and planned shutdowns.
    • Assist in manually cleaning slow sand filters.

    4. Safety & Emergency Duties

    • Report incidents, deviations, and security breaches to the Supervisor.
    • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality regulations.
    • Be trained and certified in handling hazardous chemicals.

    5. Communication & Support Duties

    • Operate the switchboard and radio communications as required.
    • May be required to do driving duties to transport rotating shift staff.
