Requirements
- An appropriate National Diploma/B-Degree (equivalent or higher qualification) in Animal Health as recognized by SAQA;
- Valid registration with South African Veterinary Council;
- A minimum of 3 years appropriate experience within Animal Health environment;
- A valid driving licence.
- Competencies: Working knowledge and understanding of the following: Extensive fieldwork under varying environmental conditions;
- Exposure to infectious diseases and biohazards;
- Physical mobility and ability to work with animals;
- Availability for emergency disease response (including after-hours).
- Skills in the following: Proven computer literacy (MS Office);
- Communication (written and verbal) skills;
- Supervisory skills;
- Investigation skills;
- Report writing;
- Analytical skills;
- Interpretation skills;
- Interpersonal skills.
Duties
- Manage and implement the detection, prevention, eradication and control of controlled and notifiable animal diseases and zoonosis;
- Manage a support service with regard to animal disease control, reproduction and production advancement, sample collection and law enforcement;
- Manage extension services on animal health to animal owners;
- Supervise the resources of the Component;
- Disease Surveillance, Control and Outbreak Management;
- Epidemiology and Data Management Regulatory Compliance and Law Enforcement;
- Veterinary Public Health and Biosecurity;
- Extension Services and Stakeholder Engagement;
- Resource and Team Management;
- Administration and Reporting.
