    The City of Cape Town’s Department of Public Safety is currently offering an exciting opportunity for individuals who wish to contribute to the safety and security of VIPs, dignitaries, and other prominent figures in the city.     Assistant VIP Protector Job Overview

    • Position Title: Assistant VIP Protector
    • Department: Public Safety
    • Directorate: Safety and Security

    • Closing Date: 29 April 2025
    • Salary: R 233 834 p.a (Basic Salary)

    Eligibility Criteria

    This position is open to both internal and external candidates, meaning current employees of the City of Cape Town as well as external applicants can apply. To be considered eligible for this role, candidates must meet the following basic requirements:

    1. Educational Requirements:
      • Grade 12 (Matriculation Certificate)
    2. Professional Qualifications:
      • Peace Officer Certificate
      • Valid Driver’s Licence (Code EB)
    3. Additional Skills:
      • Computer Literacy: You must be proficient in using basic computer programs to perform administrative tasks.
      • An Accredited Advanced Driving Course would be advantageous, as this skill is essential when driving VIPs.
      • Completion of a First Aid Course will be beneficial for responding to emergencies during your work.
    4. Experience:
      • At least 2-3 years of relevant experience in the field of protection/VIP security.

    Key Performance Areas (KPAs)

    The Assistant VIP Protector plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of VIPs and dignitaries. The key performance areas of this position include:

    1. Transporting VIPs Safely:
      • The primary responsibility of the Assistant VIP Protector is to transport VIPs to official engagements while ensuring their safety during their duties. This involves carefully planning routes and responding swiftly to any safety concerns.
    2. Risk Assessment and Incident Reporting:
      • As a VIP Protector, you will be required to identify and assess potential risks to the safety of the VIPs. This includes compiling and submitting detailed reports to the Senior VIP Officer on perceived threats or incidents, along with proposing appropriate safety measures.
    3. Decision-Making in Emergencies:
      • In situations where a dedicated VIP Protection officer is unavailable, you will be responsible for making critical decisions regarding the extrication or safety of the VIPs in emergency situations.
    4. Governance and Record-Keeping:
      • It is essential to maintain accurate records of all activities, including movements, incidents, and deviations from planned schedules. These records must be properly archived and accessible for reference when needed.
    5. Promotion of City’s Corporate Image:
      • In all your interactions with VIPs and visiting dignitaries, you are expected to treat them with the utmost respect and professionalism, enhancing the corporate image of the City of Cape Town.
    6. Maintaining Operational Diary:
      • Keeping a detailed operational diary that includes all movements, deviations, and incidents is crucial for ensuring transparency and accountability in your role.
