    If you’re passionate about videography, media production, and playing a key role in supporting an educational institution’s communication strategies, this is an exciting opportunity for you. North-West University (NWU) is seeking to fill a Communication Officer Vacancy (Position Number N001000, re-advertised) on their Potchefstroom Campus. The successful candidate will join NWU’s Corporate Relations and Marketing Department and contribute to producing engaging video content for a wide range of communication platforms.

    Communication Officer Job Description

    The selected candidate will be instrumental in producing high-quality video content that aligns with the university’s branding and communication goals. Reporting to the Corporate Communication Department, you will work closely with various university departments and play a critical role in capturing and showcasing university events, programs, and other strategic initiatives.

    Key Responsibilities

    As the Communication Officer (Videographer), you will be responsible for the following tasks:

    1. Video Production

    • Plan, film, and edit high-quality video content for platforms such as the university website, social media, and internal communication.
    • Set up lighting, sound, and camera equipment for all video productions.
    • Coordinate and execute video shoots for events, interviews, and campus activities.

    2. Creative Development

    • Collaborate with Corporate Relations and Marketing, as well as the Digital Media Team, to develop concepts and scripts for video projects.
    • Stay current on trends in video production and propose innovative ideas to engage target audiences.

    3. Post-Production

    • Perform tasks such as editing, sound mixing, adding graphics, and special effects during post-production.
    • Ensure all video content meets NWU’s branding guidelines and quality standards.

    4. Collaboration

    • Work with various university faculties, departments, staff, and students to ensure a smooth video production process.
    • Engage in cross-functional teamwork for large projects, providing video coverage for key university events.

    5. Project Management and Personal Development

    • Maintain a systematic approach to managing multiple video projects simultaneously.
    • Keep up to date with new software, video production tools, and multimedia design techniques to deliver innovative solutions.

    6. Ad Hoc Tasks

    • Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by management to contribute to the overall success of the Corporate Communication Department.
    • Participate in professional development activities to continuously enhance skills and knowledge.

    Minimum Requirements

    To be considered for the Communication Officer role, applicants must meet the following criteria:

    Educational Requirements:

    • A bachelor’s degree (NQF level 7) in Film, Communications, Media Production, or a related field.

    Professional Experience:

    • Minimum of two years of professional experience in video production, including working with video equipment such as cameras, lighting, and audio setups.
    • At least one year of experience using graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator).

    Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in video editing software, such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Davinci, or After Effects.
    • Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Excellent administrative, managerial, and project management skills.
    • Advanced knowledge of user experience (UX) design and user interface (UI) design.
    • Driver’s license (compulsory).

    Behavioral Competencies:

    • Be open to receiving constructive feedback and continuously improving your video content.
    • Ability to function independently, take initiative, and handle pressure while delivering same-day edits.
    • Excellent organizational skills and a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Be creative and innovative in multimedia design and video development.

    Remuneration

    The annual remuneration package for the Communication Officer position will be based on the level of appointment and aligned with NWU’s policy guidelines. The details of the remuneration package will be communicated to shortlisted candidates.
