    The Provincial Administration of the Free State, through its Department of Community Safety, Roads, and Transport, is inviting South African unemployed graduates to apply for the 2024/2025 Internship Programme. This initiative offers a unique opportunity for young individuals, aged between 20 and 35, to gain valuable practical work experience over a maximum period of twelve months. Selected interns will receive an annual stipend of R155,148, depending on their NQF level.


    With various internship opportunities available across different districts and fields, including road maintenance, communications, and people development, this programme aims to foster professional growth and support the career development of aspiring candidates. The department encourages applications from diverse backgrounds to promote equity and enhance representativity within the workforce.

    Department Of Community Safety, Roads and Transport – Road Workers (Operators)

    • Salary: R155,148 per annum (Level 03)

    Requirements:

    • NQF Level 3 (Grade 10 certificate or equivalent)
    • Knowledge of job functions, communication, interpersonal relations, flexibility, teamwork, and accuracy
    • Skills in communication, literacy, good eyesight, and teamwork

    Duties:

    • Operate and maintain road building equipment (e.g., grader, bulldozer, front-end loader, tipper truck)
    • Execute daily administrative tasks and plan road maintenance activities, including material and equipment management
    • Ensure adherence to quality standards and provide performance feedback to the Road Works Foreman
    • Measure production, calculate costs, monitor progress and quality of work, and manage inventory
    • Supervise resources, motivate and discipline the team, and maintain safety regulations
    • Attend meetings and communicate with district personnel

    • Closing Date:
      • Applications must be received by 06 September 2024.
    • Application Form:
      • Use the new Z83 form
      • Ensure the application form is fully completed, signed, and initialed by the applicant.
      • Clearly indicate the job title, office location, and reference number as stated in the advert.
    • Required Documents:
      • A recent comprehensive CV with contactable referees (including telephone numbers and email addresses).
      • Foreign qualifications must be accompanied by an evaluation certificate from the South African Qualification Authority (SAQA).
      • Dual citizenship holders need to provide a Police Clearance certificate from their country of origin.
      • Non-South African citizens must submit proof of South African permanent residence when shortlisted.
    • Important Notes:
      • Applications using the old Z83 form will not be considered.
      • Only shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide certified copies of qualifications and other relevant documents before the interview.
      • Incomplete, unsigned, or improperly completed forms will be disqualified.
      • Applications will not be accepted via fax or email.
      • Late applications will not be considered.
    • Additional Requirements:
      • All successful candidates will need to enter into an employment contract and a performance agreement within 3 months of appointment.
      • Successful candidates will also be required to undergo a security clearance process within 3 months of appointment.

    Selection Process:

    • Suitability Check:
      • Candidates will be subjected to a suitability check, including criminal record, financial, qualification verification, citizenship, reference checks, and employment verification.
    • Communication:
      • Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. If no communication is received within three months of the closing date, consider the application unsuccessful.
      • The Department reserves the right not to fill the advertised positions.
