    Driver Job Overview

    • Position: Driver (Constable)
    • Location: Pretoria (Visible Policing and Operations, External Deployment, and Mobilisation Support)
    • Remuneration: R226,188 per annum (Band A)

    Key Responsibilities

    This role is essential to ensuring efficient SAPS operations. As a driver, you will be responsible for managing SAPS’s operational vehicle fleet and transporting vehicles, equipment, and personnel across various locations in South Africa. Core duties include:

    1. Vehicle Fleet Administration: Ensure proper maintenance, documentation, and registration of operational and armoured vehicle fleets.
    2. Transport Management: Coordinate the movement of personnel, equipment, and vehicles on a national level, which may involve packing, loading, and unloading.
    3. Inspection and Compliance: Conduct regular checks to report damages, losses, or needed repairs for the fleet. Adhere to SAPS policies, including National Instructions 4 (State Vehicles) and 2 (Armoured Vehicles).
    4. Performance Reporting: Assist in compiling performance reports for fleet management, aiding in the development of policies related to vehicle mobilisation.
    5. Security Standards Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to Minimum Information Security Standards (MISS) throughout all driving and transport operations.

    Requirements and Qualifications

    To be eligible for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

    Generic Requirements

    • Competency: Demonstrate the necessary skills for the job’s core functions.
    • Language Proficiency: Fluency in at least two of South Africa’s official languages, one of which must be English.
    • Education: A Grade 12 certificate or equivalent National Certificate (Vocational) at NQF level 4.
    • Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen.
    • Driver’s License: Possession of a valid driver’s license.
    • Criminal Record: No prior criminal or departmental convictions and no pending criminal or departmental cases.
    • Physical Requirements: No visible tattoos that would be exposed when wearing a SAPS uniform.

    Additional Post Requirements

    • Driving Experience: A minimum of 3-4 years of experience as a driver.
    • Licenses: Code EB, C1, C, EC1, and EC driver’s licenses, along with a valid Public Drivers Permit (PDP).
    • Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal communication skills (both verbal and written).
    • Work Environment Adaptability: Ability to work under pressure and extend working hours when required.

    3. Reference Number: Specify the reference number, MOB 10/2024, on your application.
    4. Original Documents: Originals will be required if you are shortlisted.
    5. Verification Process: All qualifications and licenses will be verified.
    6. Interview and Assessment: Shortlisted candidates will undergo a personal interview, practical assessment, and fingerprint screening.

    Additional Information

    • Medical and Psychological Assessment: SAPS requires a medical assessment for applicants selected under the Police Service Act.
    • Firearm Competency: Successful applicants must complete a lateral entry program at a SAPS Academy & Training Centre and demonstrate firearm competency throughout their service.
    • Security Vetting: Candidates must undergo a comprehensive vetting process, including fingerprint screening and security checks.
    • Child Protection Screening: Certain posts require vetting against the National Register for Sex Offenders and Child Protection Register.
