    The University of South Africa (Unisa) is inviting applications for multiple exciting engineering positions within their University Estates Project Management directorate. These roles are crucial in maintaining and enhancing the physical infrastructure of one of Africa’s leading distance learning institutions.

    1. Mechanical Engineer (Fire and HVAC Systems)
    Position Details
    • Department: University Estates

    • Position Title: Mechanical Engineer (Fire and HVAC)

    • Contract Type: Two-year fixed-term contract
    • Location: Muckleneuk Campus, Pretoria
    Role Overview

    The Mechanical Engineer (Fire and HVAC Systems) will be responsible for overseeing the construction and design of new buildings and improving the HVAC and fire systems of existing facilities. This role demands a strong background in mechanical engineering services for large multi-purpose infrastructure facilities.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Prepare reports, designs, and drawings.
    • Provide technical advice on fire and HVAC systems design.
    • Obtain planning and building regulations approvals.
    • Manage As-built drawings after project handover.
    • Liaise with architects and other professionals involved in construction and maintenance projects.
    • Monitor and inspect work undertaken by contractors.
    • Administer professional services contracts when necessary.
    • Conduct inspections and report on compliance with statutory regulations.
    Minimum Requirements
    • A B.Tech, B.Sc., or B.Eng qualification.
    • Professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Pr.Tech.Eng or Pr.Eng.
    • At least three years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering (Fire & HVAC systems) services for large multi-purpose facilities.
    • A valid driver’s license.

    2. Electrical Engineer
    Position Details

    • Contract Type: Two-year fixed-term contract
    • Location: Muckleneuk Campus, Pretoria

    The Electrical Engineer will oversee the design and improvement of electrical systems within Unisa’s infrastructure. The position involves ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and advising on electrical system designs.

    The Civil Engineer will focus on overseeing the construction and design of existing buildings, improving the structural integrity of Unisa’s facilities, and ensuring that buildings can withstand environmental elements.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Prepare reports, designs, and drawings.
    • Provide technical advice related to civil works designs.
    • Obtain planning and building regulations approvals.
    • Ensure As-built drawings are acquired and retained after project handover.
    • Liaise with relevant professional staff on maintenance and construction projects.
    • Monitor and inspect work undertaken by contractors.
    • Manage projects for professional civil and structural engineering services.
    • Conduct inspections and provide reports on building structural issues.
    Minimum Requirements
