    Eskom Mechanical Engineering Position Overview

    • Position: Engineer Professional Mechanical – Turbine (Generation) at Majuba Power Station
    • Vacancy Type: External/Internal
    • Task Grade: P13
    • Area of Specialization: Responsible for sustaining and enhancing the performance of allocated plant
    • Department: Engineering Turbine
    • Business Unit: Majuba Power Station
    • Location: Mpumalanga, South Africa
    • Reference Number: Gx Maj PK 228
    • Closing Date: August 5, 2024

    Minimum Requirements

    • Grade 12 (Matric)
    • BSc / B Eng in Mechanical Engineering at NQF Level 8 with 480 credits
    • Completion of a two (2) years’ training programme for graduates OR
    • Two (2) years’ engineering experience in power generation
    • Registered with ECSA as a Candidate Engineer

    Key Responsibilities

    • Performance Monitoring: Regularly assess the performance of mechanical systems and components within the plant to ensure they operate at peak efficiency.
    • Data Analysis: Utilize advanced analytical tools and techniques to interpret performance data, identify trends, and implement improvements.
    • Continuous Improvement: Develop and implement strategies for continuous performance enhancement, focusing on energy efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
    • Preventive Maintenance: Plan and execute preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of equipment.
    • Root Cause Analysis: Conduct thorough investigations to determine the root causes of mechanical failures or performance issues, using methodologies such as FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) and RCA (Root Cause Analysis).
    • Problem-Solving: Develop and implement effective solutions to address mechanical problems, ensuring minimal disruption to plant operations.
    • Rapid Response: Lead and coordinate swift response efforts to mechanical issues, working closely with maintenance teams to restore normal operations quickly.
    • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of issues identified, actions taken, and outcomes achieved to build a comprehensive knowledge base for future reference
    • Project Management: Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of plant modification projects, ensuring they meet technical specifications, timelines, and budgets.
    • Technical Evaluations: Evaluate the technical feasibility and impact of proposed modifications, including equipment upgrades, process changes, and new installations.
    • Coordination: Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, operations staff, and external contractors, to ensure seamless project execution.
    • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all modifications comply with relevant engineering standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.
