Requirements
- Minimum educational qualification: Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Nursing Assistant.
- Registration with a professional council: Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Nursing Assistant.
- Registration with the SANC as a Nursing Assistant.
- Experience: Grade 1: None.
- Grade 2: A minimum of 10 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration with the SANC as a Nursing Assistant.
- Grade 3: A minimum of 20 years appropriate/ recognizable experience in nursing after registration with the SANC as a Nursing Assistant.
- Inherent requirements of the job: Willingness to work shifts, weekends, public holidays and night duty as well as overtime when necessary.
- Willingness to rotate to other wards and between departments in the facility when needed.
- Competencies (knowledge/skills): Ability to function/make decisions independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Good communication and interpersonal relationships.
- Knowledge of relevant nursing legislation, policies and protocols of the Department of Health, Western Cape.
- Ability to work in a high stress environment.
Duties
- Assist and support patients with activities of daily living and physical self-care, carried out under the supervision of the Professional Nurse.
- Provide elementary clinical nursing care to patients under the supervision of the Professional Nurse.
- Maintain professional growth and ethical standards and seek learning opportunities/self-development.
- Function within multi-disciplinary team.
- Effective utilization of resources.
- Provide ongoing health education to patients and next of kin.
- Record keeping.
