Requirements
- Minimum educational qualification: Basic R425 qualification (Diploma/Degree in Nursing) or equivalent qualification (R683 plus R254) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
- A post-basic nursing qualification of at least one year accredited with the SANC in: Medical and Surgical Nursing Science: Critical Care Nursing (General) (R212), or Medical and Surgical Nursing Science: Critical Care Nursing: Trauma and Emergency (R212), or Four-year Bachelor Degree in Nursing (R174), OR Equivalent qualification (R683 plus R1497 or R171 plus R1497) allowing registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse.
- A Postgraduate Diploma (R635) accredited in: Emergency Nursing, or Critical Care Nursing (Adult).
- Registration with a professional council: Registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse.
- Experience: Grade 1: A minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.
- Grade 2: A minimum of 14 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.
- At least 10 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/recognisable experience after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification or post graduate diploma in the specific specialty.
- Inherent requirements of the job: Willingness to work shifts (weekends, public holidays and night duty and overtime).
- Competencies (knowledge/skills): Excellent verbal and written communication skills communication and basic computer literacy skills ((MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of nursing legislation and related legal and ethical nursing practices in the field of speciality.
- Ability to promote quality through the setting, implementation, and the monitoring of nursing standards in the Emergency Centre.
- Ability to function independently as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team, effective communication, interpersonal, decision making, conflict resolution skills, good organisational skills and the ability to function under pressure.

- Provision of optimal, holistic specialized nursing care with set standards and within a professional/legal framework.
- Effective utilization of resources.
- Participation in training and research.
- Provision of Support to Nursing Services.
- Maintain professional growth/ethical standards and self-development.
