Requirements

To qualify for these positions, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • Educational Background: Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in English and at least one African language.
  • Advantageous Experience:
    • Experience working in HIV/AIDS programs.
    • A valid certificate in HIV counselling and testing.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

Applicants with the following additional competencies will have an advantage:

  • Computer Literacy: Basic proficiency is essential.
  • Counselling Skills: Previous experience or training in basic counselling is advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will undertake a range of duties focused on HIV prevention and health promotion, including:

  1. HIV Testing Services (HTS):
    • Conducting HTS services, including index tracing within workplaces and at community levels.
    • Offering services to pregnant women and supporting HIV prevention initiatives.
  2. Counselling and Education:
    • Providing risk reduction counselling related to HIV, tuberculosis (TB), and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
    • Screening and making referrals for TB and STIs.
  3. HIV Testing Procedures:
    • Obtaining informed and written consent for HIV testing, TB screening, and STI screening.
    • Performing finger-prick capillary blood collection for rapid HIV testing.
  4. Data and Reporting:
    • Documenting and reconciling onsite services daily.
    • Submitting data collected during outreach campaigns as per the prescribed standard operating procedures.
  5. Promotion of Health Services:
    • Advocating for Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC).
    • Promoting lubricant distribution as a method of HIV prevention.
