  • Capricorn District – 7 Posts (Ref No: S.4/3/10/52)

Key Responsibilities

As a Road Worker, your primary duties will involve the maintenance and construction of roads across your assigned district. Specific tasks include:

  1. Road Maintenance and Construction
    • Construction of culverts and side drains: These structures help manage stormwater, preventing road flooding and erosion.
    • Erect and maintain steel guardrails and gabions: These are critical for road safety, especially in areas with steep embankments or curves.
    • Construction of road earth and layer works: This involves preparing the foundation and layers for road surfacing.
  2. Cleaning and Maintenance
    • Road and sidewalk cleaning: Ensuring that road surfaces and sidewalks are kept free from debris, which can cause accidents or degrade the surface.
    • Rest area maintenance: Keeping roadside rest areas clean and functional for road users.
  3. Repair and Surfacing
    • Pothole patching and surfacing: Repairing damaged sections of the road to maintain a smooth and safe driving experience.
    • Road marking and signage: Installing road signs, markers, and barricades to guide traffic and ensure safety.
  4. Miscellaneous Tasks
    • Bush clearing and grass cutting: Clearing vegetation around roads to improve visibility and prevent damage.
    • Road fencing and pipe laying: Installing fences along roads and laying pipes to manage water flow.

Requirements

To qualify for the position of a Road Worker, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

Educational Requirements

  • NQF Level 1 or 2 (ABET Level 2 Certificate) as recognized by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).

Skills and Knowledge

Candidates should possess a strong understanding of the following:

  • Relevant Acts and Regulations governing road maintenance.
  • Experience or ability in operating road machinery.
  • Knowledge of health and safety measures in road maintenance.
  • Ability to follow working procedures in road construction and maintenance.
