    The Department of Nature Conservation at Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) is offering an exciting Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Plant Physiology. This one-year fixed contract position provides a unique opportunity for a recently graduated PhD holder to engage in cutting-edge research, contribute to scholarly publications, and collaborate with experts in the field.


    Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Overview

    • Position: Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (Plant Physiology)
    • Department: Nature Conservation
    • Contract: One-Year Fixed Contract
    • Salary: R300,000.00 basic salary per annum – with no benefits
    • Closing Date: 12 July 2024

    Key Performance Areas

    As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you will:

    • Collaborative Research: Interact with collaborators to design experiments and develop process designs.
    • Grant Applications: Draft grant applications in the broad research area of plant physiology.
    • Publications: Publish a minimum of 4 manuscripts per year in reputable journals and peer-reviewed conference proceedings.
    • Supervision: Co-supervise relevant postgraduate research and collaborate with other postdoctoral fellows.
    • Project Management: Initiate and manage research projects, assisting in their overall management and contributing to various activities.
    • Networking: Initiate, develop, and/or be involved in research networks, collaborations, institutional partnerships, and the organization of research events.

    Minimum Requirements

    To be eligible for this position, you should have:

    • Educational Qualifications: A recently earned PhD in Biological Science (specializing in Plant Physiology, Medicinal Plant Physiology, or Ecology). The candidate should have graduated with their doctorate degree no longer than within the previous five years.
    • Publication Record: At least 3 published journal papers in the last 24 months.
    • Visa Requirements: International Postdoctoral Research Fellows must have a long-term visitor’s visa endorsed for academic activities affiliated with MUT (Section 11(1)(b) Visitors Visa).
    • Employment Status: Candidates should not have held full-time permanent academic or professional employment.
    • Track Record: Established track record of publications and conference contributions related to the outlined research areas.
    • Mentorship Experience: Experience in postgraduate student mentorship.

    Competencies

    • Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Technical Skills: Proficiency in physiological techniques and skills.
