    Revenue Officer Job Description

    The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all Section 56 Notices are administered according to prescribed legislation and all revenue collected is accurately accounted for in the Agency’s financial records. Additionally, the position entails a key role in law enforcement, debtor administration, and reconciliation.

    Key Responsibilities

    As the Revenue Officer, your role will include the following duties:

    1. Receiving and Verifying Notices:
      You will be responsible for receiving, verifying, and capturing law enforcement documents and notices onto the system. This ensures accurate record-keeping and compliance with legal requirements.
    2. Debtor Administration:
      You will manage the debtor administration process, which involves reconciling referenced deposits and keeping track of outstanding fines and payments.
    3. Law Enforcement Investigations:
      You will conduct investigations related to law enforcement, particularly focusing on financial violations and revenue discrepancies.
    4. Control of Cancelled Notices:
      Monitoring and managing cancelled notices is an essential part of ensuring that all records are updated accurately and in compliance with legal processes.
    5. Managing Admissions of Guilt Fines:
      You’ll oversee the management of fines related to the admission of guilt, ensuring that these are processed correctly and reflected in the financial records.
    6. Client Service:
      Providing excellent service to both internal and external clients is key to ensuring smooth operations and resolving any issues that may arise.
    7. Bank Deposit Processes:
      In cases where bank statements do not reflect a reference number, you’ll process new deposits onto the system as a daily repeated task.

    Technical Competencies:

    To be successful in this role, you need to have a solid understanding of various legislative acts, policies, and procedures related to road transport and finance, such as:

    • Cross Border Road Transport Act
      This law governs the operation and regulation of cross-border road transport in South Africa. An in-depth understanding is essential for ensuring compliance with revenue collection and law enforcement activities.
    • Criminal Procedures Act:
      Knowledge of this Act is critical in managing the legal processes tied to revenue collection, fines, and court processes.
    • National Land Transport Act and Tourism Act:
      These regulations impact the transport and tourism sectors, and having an understanding of them will assist in ensuring that revenue activities comply with these broader legal frameworks.

    Job Requirements

    To qualify for this position, you will need:

    • Minimum Qualification:
      A National Diploma or an NQF level 6 qualification in a Finance-related field is required.
    • Experience:
      You should have a minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in finance, particularly in roles related to revenue collection, reconciliation, and law enforcement.
