    The South African Nursing Council (SANC) is a regulatory body responsible for setting and maintaining the highest standards of nursing education, training, and practice across South Africa. This autonomous and financially independent organization was initially established under the Nursing Act, 1944, and currently operates under the Nursing Act of 2005 (Act No. 33 of 2005).


    South African Nursing Council plays a vital role in ensuring that South African nurses receive the best training and follow proper regulations, safeguarding both their careers and the healthcare system at large. As part of its commitment to maintaining these standards, the South African Nursing Council is looking to fill two key positions: Legal Officer and Graphic Designer. If you have the required qualifications and experience, these opportunities could be perfect for you.

    Job Opportunities at the South African Nursing Council Available

    Position 1: Legal Officer – Legal Affairs

    • Date of Issue: 20 October 2024
    • Department: Legal Affairs

    • Remuneration: R809,648.77 Total Cost to Company (TCTC) per annum
    • Type of Contract: Permanent

    Minimum Requirements:

    To apply for the Legal Officer position, candidates need to meet the following criteria:

    • A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree or B Proc.
    • A minimum of 5 years’ post-admission experience.
    • A valid driver’s license.
    • Admission as an Attorney or Advocate.

    Added Advantage:

    Applicants with the following will have an advantage:

    • Experience as a public prosecutor or pro-forma prosecutor in statutory councils or quasi-judicial tribunals.

    Other Requirements:

    • Willingness to travel extensively and work beyond regular hours, in accordance with the Basic Conditions of Employment Act.

    Required Knowledge:

    The successful candidate will need to demonstrate an understanding of:

    • Nursing-related legislation, including the Nursing Act.
    • SANC regulations.
    • National Health Act, Medicines and Related Substances Control Act, and other relevant health legislation.
    • Prosecution processes and the law of evidence.

    Competencies and Skills:

    • Strong legal research and prosecution skills.
    • Ability to draft charge sheets, appeal papers, and review documents.
    • Investigation and report writing skills.
    • In-depth knowledge of criminal and civil procedures.
    • Ability to work independently and proficiently in handling legal cases.
    • Interpersonal skills and teamwork.

    Key Responsibilities:

    The Legal Officer will perform the following tasks:

    • Develop and implement the Annual Performance Plan, Operational Plan, and departmental strategy.
    • Contribute to policy development and review procedures.
    • Assess case files for completeness and manage case progression.
    • Lead prosecutions at Professional Conduct Hearings.
    • Develop hearing agendas, prepare evidence bundles, and consult with witnesses.
    • Provide legal support to inspections and Council Committees.

    Position 2: Graphic Designer – Communication and Marketing Department

    • Type of Contract: Permanent

    Minimum Requirements:

    To qualify for the Graphic Designer position, candidates must have:

    • A Grade 12 certificate.
    • A National Diploma/Degree in Graphic Design, Multimedia Design, or a relevant qualification.
    • At least 5 years’ experience in graphic and multimedia design within a corporate organization, public sector, or state-owned entity.

    Added Advantage:

    Applicants will stand out with the following:

    • Postgraduate qualifications in Graphic or Multimedia Design.
    • More than 5 years’ experience in the graphic design field within a corporate or public sector setting.

    Required Knowledge:

    The Graphic Designer must have:

    • Proficiency in online design, including emails, websites, and electronic newsletters.
    • Expertise in multimedia design such as videos, screensavers, and web content.
    • Knowledge of Annual Report design and the use of relevant software (e.g., Adobe Design, Illustrator).
    • Strong skills in photography and photo editing.

    Competencies and Skills:

    The ideal candidate will possess:

    • Excellent technical skills in design.
    • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well within a team.
    • A keen eye for creative and conceptual design.

    Key Responsibilities:

    As a Graphic Designer, you will:

    • Contribute to the development and implementation of the department’s Annual Performance Plan and strategy.
    • Develop creative designs for the organization’s needs, from concept to execution.
    • Assist in developing templates for print, digital marketing, social media, and HTML.
    • Ensure all artwork meets quality standards and printer specifications.
    • Work on multimedia initiatives and event-related designs.

    This role is perfect for those with a passion for creativity and a background in multimedia and corporate design.
