Security Guard Job Overview
SANParks is currently looking for a Security Guard to be part of its Protection Services Department at Kruger National Park. The successful candidate will be reporting to the Security Supervisor and will be responsible for maintaining security, preventing illegal activities, and ensuring the safety of staff, visitors, and wildlife.
Minimum Job Requirements
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria
Education and Certification
- Must have Grade 12 Matric
- Must have a Grade C, D, and E Security Certificate
- Must have a valid PSIRA Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority registration
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Security Guard
- Knowledge and experience in using security equipment
Additional Skills and Requirements
- Understanding of wildlife crime and illegal activities
- A valid driver’s license is essential
- Must be physically fit and will undergo a physical fitness assessment
- Ability to secure buildings, detect suspicious activities, and ensure public safety
- Basic knowledge of first aid
- Good communication skills verbal and written
- Knowledge of firearm competency advantageous but not required
Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will perform the following duties
- Securing the Park Ensure the protection of KNP’s infrastructure and report any suspicious activity
- Monitoring and Surveillance Conduct routine checks to prevent illegal entry or vandalism
- Access Control Keep records of all visitors entering the park and monitor movement within the premises
- Random Inspections Search vehicles and individuals to prevent illegal activities such as poaching or theft
- Reporting Unusual Incidents Notify the Shift Supervisor, Security Supervisor, or Chief Security Officer about any security breaches
- Patrolling the Park Regular patrols to maintain a high-security presence in designated areas
- Crowd Control Assist in managing visitors at park gates and ensuring safety measures are followed
- Emergency Response Act swiftly in case of security threats or emergencies
