    Are you a dedicated attorney passionate about making a difference in the lives of those in need while mentoring the next generation of legal professionals? Stellenbosch University’s Law Clinic is looking to appoint an admitted attorney to join their team at the Stellenbosch Campus.


    This role involves delivering impactful legal services to those who may not afford it while training final-year law students and candidate legal practitioners in real-world applications of the law.

    • Faculty: Law, within the Law Clinic

    • Start Date: 1 March 2025

    The Stellenbosch University Law Clinic functions as a fully operational law firm, offering free legal services to indigent clients. Beyond offering legal representation, the clinic is a research hub and actively engages in impact litigation, addressing societal injustices through the legal system. The clinic also provides an immersive training environment for law students and candidate legal practitioners, preparing them for the demands of the legal profession.

    Key Responsibilities

    The successful candidate will assume the duties typical of a law clinician. The key responsibilities include:

    1. Legal Services: Conducting legal consultations, case research, drafting legal documents, and representing clients in court.
    2. Mentorship: Supervising and guiding candidate legal practitioners and law students in practical legal skills.
    3. Community Education: Offering legal education and outreach to the community, particularly focusing on vulnerable and marginalized groups.
    4. Stakeholder Management: Building and managing relationships with key stakeholders and community partners involved with the Clinic.
    5. Administrative Duties: Handling administrative tasks related to client management, legal processes, and stakeholder interactions.

    Qualifications and Requirements

    To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

    • Admitted Attorney: Only admitted attorneys will be considered.
    • Experience: A minimum of three years’ experience in family law, with a particular focus on children’s rights cases.
    • License: Valid driver’s license is required.
    • Technical Skills: Proficiency with computers and digital tools.
    • Work Traits: Ability to work independently, maintain composure under pressure, and exhibit diligence and a strong work ethic.
    • Interpersonal Skills: Good communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to relate well to a diverse, multicultural group.
    • Initiative: Proactive, innovative, and capable of effectively navigating complex situations with a solutions-oriented mindset.
