About the Role
The Student Counsellor will play a vital role in fostering the holistic development of UKZN students by ensuring their well-being and enhancing their learning environment. The focus will be on:
- Counselling and Development Services – Supporting students through personal, academic, and career counselling.
- Life Skills Workshops – Conducting essential training programs to help students navigate challenges.
- Psychological Assessments – Providing professional assessments to support student mental health and performance.
- Retention and Throughput Enhancement – Helping students successfully complete their studies.
The selected candidates will work closely with the Manager: College Student Support Services to ensure students receive the highest level of support and guidance.
Minimum Requirements
To be eligible for this Student Counsellor position, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Relevant Master’s Degree in Psychology
- Counselling, Educational, or Clinical Psychology
- HPCSA Registration
- Must be currently registered as an independent practitioner with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)
- Work Experience (Minimum Two Years)
- Includes one-year full-time internship for psychologists and/or
- One-year full-time community service for clinical psychologists
- Valid Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Compliance Certificate
These criteria ensure that applicants have the necessary academic background, registration, and experience to provide professional counselling services to the institutions’ students.
