    Trainee Valuer Job Description

    The Trainee Valuer role is an entry-level position designed for individuals eager to begin their journey in property valuation. The primary purpose of this role is to assist with residential property research, fieldwork, and valuations that contribute to the eThekwini Valuation Roll. The trainee valuer also plays an essential part in meeting the capital project program’s requirements.

    Key Responsibilities

    As a Trainee Valuer, you will be responsible for several critical functions, including:

    • Assisting with the research and valuation of residential properties.
    • Helping prepare reports, correspondence, purchase/sale, and compensation agreements.
    • Providing support to professional valuers by assisting with committee reports.
    • Engaging with property market stakeholders and managing property-related information.
    • Responding to both counter and telephonic inquiries regarding valuations and property-related matters.

    In this role, you’ll develop a deep understanding of the valuation process and gain exposure to various real estate stakeholders, preparing you for more advanced roles in the future.

    Junior Valuer Responsibilities

    As a Junior Valuer, you will take on more responsibilities, including:

    • Conducting valuations of non-complex residential properties.
    • Assisting with the valuation of other types of properties, including commercial and industrial real estate.
    • Interacting with conveyancers and preparing vouchers for professional fees.
    • Undertaking research and assisting in negotiations for property acquisition or alienation.

    Requirements

    To qualify for the Trainee Valuer position, candidates need to meet the following essential requirements:

    • Education: A Grade 12 certificate (NQF Level 4) is necessary, and candidates must be studying towards an NQF Level 6 qualification in Real Estate (Property Valuation) or an equivalent qualification accredited by the South African Council for the Property Valuers Profession.
    • Registration: Successful applicants must register as a Candidate Valuer with the South African Council for the Property Valuers Profession within six months of appointment.
    • License: A valid motor vehicle driving license is required or must be obtained within six months from the date of appointment.
    • Computer Literacy: Basic computer skills are necessary to manage information and prepare reports.

    Preferred Requirements

    Candidates who possess a tertiary qualification (NQF Level 6) in Real Estate or a related field, registration with the South African Council for the Property Valuers Profession, two years of relevant experience, and advanced computer literacy will have a competitive edge.
