    The Department of Traditional Affairs is currently seeking a qualified individual for the role of Assistant Director in Anthropological & Genealogical Services. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to research in the field of traditional affairs, particularly relating to traditional and Khoi-San communities and leadership.


    Key Requirements

    • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Anthropology, Political Studies, Public Administration, Public Policy, or a related field at NQF level 7.
    • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in conducting social science research in public or private sector institutions.
    • Proficiency in social science research software packages for data analysis, such as SPSS, Stata, R, and Nvivo.
    • A valid driver’s license.
    • Core competencies required include project management, problem-solving, planning and organizing, client orientation, customer focus, research and analytical thinking, and effective communication skills.
    • Technical competencies include anthropological or historical research skills, report writing, qualitative and quantitative research presentation skills, and computer literacy.
    • A postgraduate degree or research experience related to traditional and Khoi-San leadership and communities will be advantageous.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Facilitating the development and review of the Traditional Affairs Research Agenda.
    • Conducting comprehensive research on issues relevant to the traditional affairs sector, including traditional and Khoi-San communities and leadership.
    • Utilizing various social science research software for data analysis.
    • Producing and presenting research reports to both internal and external stakeholders.
    • Writing concise study briefs tailored for non-research audiences.
    • Facilitating and monitoring the implementation of research recommendations by different stakeholders.
