    Join the Eastern Cape Department of Cooperative Governance & Traditional Affairs as an Artisan Carpentry Grade A Maintenance worker. This role plays a crucial part in upholding and improving essential infrastructure throughout the province.


    Candidates with the requisite skills and a dedication to craftsmanship and community service are encouraged to apply for one of the four available positions. This is an opportunity to contribute significantly to public service delivery in the Eastern Cape.

    Eastern Cape Department of Cooperative Governance & Traditional Affairs Artisan Carpentry Requirements:

    • Possession of a valid Trade Test Certificate in Carpentry.
    • Valid driver’s license required.
    • Prior experience as an Apprentice or Learner in a relevant field.
    • Familiarity with Public Service Regulations and the Public Service Act.
    • Technical proficiency and analytical skills.
    • Ability to manage oneself effectively.
    • Strong communication skills.
    • Proficiency in problem-solving and decision-making.
    • Effective planning and organizational abilities.
    • Competent driving skills.

    Eastern Cape Department of Cooperative Governance & Traditional Affairs Artisan Carpentry Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Provide technical carpentry services including roof construction and maintenance.
    • Perform administrative tasks related to carpentry projects.
    • Repair and install shelves, cupboards, drawers, ceilings, and doors.
    • Construct wooden structures such as tables, desks, benches, and partitions.
    • Repair various carpentry items and ensure they meet required standards.
    • Measure and construct wall plates and trusses, ensuring proper spacing and leveling of purlins.
    • Install roof coverings, ridgings, fascia, and barge boards.
    • Inspect facilities for carpentry faults and conduct repairs as per specifications.
    • Test completed work against predefined specifications.
    • Conduct daily preventative and maintenance tasks.
    • Monitor and inspect the quality of carpentry work.
    • Compile and submit reports on completed tasks and ongoing projects.
    • Provide inputs to operational plans related to carpentry activities.
    • Maintain accurate job records and registers.
    • Supervise and mentor staff involved in carpentry projects.

    Eastern Cape Department of Cooperative Governance & Traditional Affairs Artisan Carpentry Application Process:

    • Applications must be submitted via the e-Recruitment system accessible at https://erecruitment.ecotp.gov.za/.
    • The Provincial e-recruitment system operates 24/7 and closes at 23:59 on the specified closing date.
    • For technical glitches or assistance with the system (such as profile activation, password issues, or email address problems), applicants should email recruitment@eccogta.gov.za.
    • When contacting for technical support, include your ID Number, profile email address, and details of the issue.
    • Sending your CV to the technical support email will not be considered; it should only be submitted through the e-Recruitment system.
    • Technical support is available during working hours: 08:00-16:30 from Monday to Thursday, and 08:00-16:00 on Fridays.
    • Alternatively, applications can be sent by post to: The Head of Department, Cooperative Governance & Traditional Affairs, Private Bag X0035, Bhisho, 5605.
    • Hand-delivered applications should be submitted at the Foyer of Tyamzashe Building, Phalo Avenue in Bhisho.

    Additional information:

    • Applications must be submitted using a duly completed Z83 form, effective from 01 January 202.
    • No faxed or emailed applications will be accepted.
    • Applicants using the e-Recruitment system are not required to submit a signed Z83 form initially. However, they will be requested to sign it on the day of their interview.
    • Upon shortlisting, candidates must submit certified copies of qualifications and other relevant documents to HR on or before the interview date.
    • Applicants with foreign qualifications must submit an evaluation certificate from the South African Qualification Authority (SAQA) by the interview date.
    • Failure to submit all requested documents will lead to disqualification of the application.
    • Correspondence will only be with shortlisted candidates; applicants not contacted within six (6) months after the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful.
    • Selected candidates will undergo personnel suitability checks, including criminal record, citizenship, financial/asset record, qualification/study verification, and previous employment verification.
    • Security clearance processes will be conducted for successful candidates.
    • Candidates may undergo skills/knowledge tests where applicable.
    • Successful candidates will be appointed on a probation period of twelve (12) months.
    • Misrepresentation in application documents will result in automatic disqualification and possible disciplinary action if already appointed.
    • The Department reserves the right not to make appointments to the advertised posts.

    • For SMS (Senior Management Service) posts, applicants must produce a pre-entry Certificate (Nyukela) from the National School of Government (NSG) before appointment, as outlined in the DPSA Directive on compulsory capacity development and mandatory training.
    • Successful SMS candidates will undergo a probation period of either 12 or 24 months.
    • Competency assessments for SMS posts will use mandated DPSA SMS competency assessment tools to evaluate generic managerial competencies.
