    The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Control Geographic Information Science (GISC) Technologist (Grade A), referenced as POST 39/42, within the Expanded Public Works Programme. This role is based at the Head Office in Pretoria and offers an annual all-inclusive salary package of R873,840, structured in accordance with the OSD rules.

    Key Requirements

    Candidates must possess a Grade 12 Certificate and a Bachelor’s degree in GISc or a related field, along with a minimum of six years of post-qualification experience as a GISc Technologist. Compulsory registration with the South African Geomatics Council (SAGC) as a GISc Technologist or Professional is essential.

    The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge in several areas, including:

    • Programme and project management
    • GISc implementation and operational compliance
    • Standards development and policy formulation
    • Spatial modelling and analysis
    • Technical consulting and research development

    Additionally, strong skills in strategic management, analytical thinking, and effective communication are required. A valid driver’s license and a willingness to travel throughout South Africa are also necessary.

    Primary Duties

    The Control GISC Technologist will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:

    • Designing and performing advanced GISc analyses to meet organizational objectives
    • Facilitating the collection and capture of spatial data
    • Coordinating the development of geospatial databases and ensuring metadata publishing
    • Managing GIS unit effectiveness and implementing spatial information applications
    • Providing training and support on GISc to end users
    • Documenting GISc processes and managing stakeholder relationships

    The role also involves conducting research on new GIS technologies and advising on the viability of projects.
