    Requirements

    To be considered for this Accounting Clerk role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

    • Educational Qualifications:
      • A minimum of a Grade 12 certificate.
      • A relevant three-year tertiary qualification, preferably a National Diploma or B Com with a major in financial accounting.
      • Computer literacy, especially proficiency in MS Office, is essential.
      • A Certificate in CPMD (Certificate Programme in Management Development) or MFMP (Municipal Finance Management Programme) will be an added advantage.
    • Experience:
      • 1-3 years of relevant experience in finance.

    Key Responsibilities

    As an Accounting Clerk in the Creditors section, your main duties will include:

    1. File Management:
      • Updating files and record-keeping systems using sequential alpha-numeric references for coding documentation, correspondence, and reports.
    2. Information Retrieval:
      • Retrieving specific information to support the processing of adjustments and queries.
    3. Payment Processing:
      • Sourcing payment documentation against receipts/delivery notes.
      • Processing entries, approved adjustments, and posting them to ledger accounts.
      • Reconciling general and statutory account balances.
    4. Requisition Handling:
      • Receiving requisitions for authorization and creating purchase orders.
      • Receiving and verifying invoices against relevant source documents.
      • Capturing payments on the financial and banking system.
    5. Banking and Financial Systems:
      • Opening beneficiaries on the banking system.
      • Capturing payments and managing financial transactions.
    6. Query Resolution:
      • Addressing both internal and external queries efficiently.
    7. General Duties:
      • Creation and deletion of requisitions as needed.
      • Performing other duties as instructed by the supervisor.

    Competency Requirements

    • Procurement:
      • Procure goods and services in accordance with the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA), Supply Chain Management (SCM) regulations, and related policies.
      • Maintain a database of approved vendors.
    • Financial Management:
      • Accurately account for goods and services supplied or received by the municipality.
    • Financial Process Management:
      • Apply relevant policies and procedures in managing financial processes.
    • Oral Communication:
      • Maintain professional interaction and communication with clients and other stakeholders.
