    Citrus Academy Bursary Overview

    • Support System: The Citrus Academy provides crucial support for students pursuing agricultural-related degrees at tertiary institutions across South Africa.

    Elegibility Criteria:

    • Any individual studying at a registered tertiary education institution in a field related to citrus production or research can apply.
    • Citizenship: Must be a citizen of South Africa, Swaziland, or Zimbabwe.
    • Enrollment: Studying full-time or part-time at a registered tertiary academic institution in South Africa.
    • Field of Study: Engaged in a field related to citrus production or research.
    • Academic Year: Going into the second year of study or above.
    • Career Interest: Interested in pursuing a career in the citrus industry.
    • Compliance: Applicants must ensure they comply with the terms and conditions of the Bursary Fund agreement.

    Citrus Academy Bursary Funding Coverage:

    • The bursary provided by the Citrus Academy can be used for various expenses related to a student’s studies.
    • Allowable Expenses: This includes tuition fees, accommodation costs, meal expenses, purchases of books and stationery, and research costs (applicable to postgraduate students only).
    • Partial Bursary: It’s important to note that the bursary is partial and not fully-funded, meaning it covers a portion of the expenses rather than the entire amount.
    • Flexibility: The funding can be utilized to support different aspects of the student’s academic journey, providing flexibility in managing educational expenses.

    Application process:

    • Application Period: Applications for the following academic year are open annually from 1 June to 15 September.
    • Online Application: Applicants must complete an online application; faxed, emailed, or mailed applications will not be considered.
    • Documentation: Alongside the application, applicants must submit a copy of their ID document and their latest academic results.
    • Instructions: It’s crucial to carefully follow all instructions on the application form.
    • Evaluation Process: After the closing date, applications undergo evaluation using a weighted scoring system, and rankings are determined.
    • Postgraduate Applications: Postgraduate applications are reviewed by leading citrus researchers and academics, emphasizing the importance of providing detailed research project and supervisor information.
    • Adjustment of Funding: The amounts applied for may be adjusted to ensure equitable funding distribution and risk management.
    • Shortlisting and Approval: Top applicants, along with current Bursary Fund beneficiaries seeking to continue their studies, are shortlisted and submitted for approval.
    • Notification: Efforts are made to inform students of their application outcomes by mid-December, with the latest notification by mid-January.

    • Bursary Agreement: Successful candidates must sign a Bursary Agreement, committing them to adhere to stringent academic standards and the Citrus Academy Code of Conduct.
    • Work Obligation: Each Bursary Fund recipient is required to work back time in the citrus industry upon completion of their studies, equivalent to the duration of support received from the Bursary Fund.
