What Is the Air Traffic Services Bursary Program?
The ATS Bursary Program is more than just financial aid—it’s a structured training and development initiative designed by ATNS to cultivate skilled professionals in South Africa’s aviation sector. This programme gives bursars an opportunity to study at the prestigious ATNS Aviation Training Academy in Bonaero Park, Gauteng.
There will be four bursary intakes throughout the financial year, accommodating a total of 117 candidates.
Available Career Streams in the Bursary Program
Once accepted, you can be trained in one of the following exciting fields:
- Air Traffic Services Officer (ATSO)
- Aeronautical Information Management Officer (AIMO)
- Target Generating Officer (TGO)
- Airport Management Centre (AMC) Liaison Officer
- Simulator Support Officer (SSO)
Upon completion, you’ll be placed based on the operational needs of ATNS.
What Will You Learn?
During the programme, you’ll receive extensive theoretical and practical training in air traffic management. You’ll be exposed to real-world operations, learning everything from flight data processing to aviation communication protocols. This holistic approach ensures you’re well-prepared for your role in South Africa’s bustling aviation industry.
Minimum Requirements to Apply
To be considered, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Matric Certificate with a pass in:
- Pure Mathematics: Level 4 / HG – D or SG C or above
- English: Level 4 / HG – D or SG C or above
- Must be a South African citizen with a valid ID
- Be medically fit and willing to undergo ATNS’s medical assessment (especially for the ATSO stream)
- Grade 12 results must be attached to the application
- Must be willing to relocate anywhere in South Africa
- Must be an unemployed South African youth
- Applicants who were previously part of any similar ATNS program will not be considered
