    Minimum Requirements

    To be considered for the position, applicants must meet the following requirements:

    1. Qualifications:

    • Trade Certificate in Electrical (Light/Heavy Current) at NQF Level 4 (with 120 credits).

    2. Experience:

    • A minimum of 2 years of electrical experience in a similar role.

    Skills and Competencies

    • Familiarity with HV Plant Certification requirements
    • Operating procedures and switchgear maintenance
    • Knowledge of ORHVS (Operating Regulations for High Voltage Systems) and OHS (Occupational Health and Safety) Act
    • A Valid Operating Authorisation (ORHVS) is required

    4. Essential Skills:

    • Organizing and planning skills
    • Strong computer literacy and analytical skills
    • Effective communication and coordination skills

    Key Responsibilities

    As an Engineering Assistant, your main duties will include:

    1. Operating and servicing HV Plants
      • Ensuring safe and efficient operations of high-voltage electrical equipment.
    2. Maintenance and Inspections
      • Performing routine maintenance on plant equipment.
      • Conducting inspections to identify potential issues.
    3. Mentoring and Coaching
      • Assisting with on-the-job training for junior employees.
    4. Ensuring Safety and Environmental Compliance
      • Following safety procedures in line with ORHVS and OHS Act.
    5. Documentation and Configuration Management
      • Keeping accurate records of maintenance work and system changes.
    6. Non-Outage Related Activities & Condition Monitoring
      • Conducting diagnostic tests and reporting findings.

    This role is critical in ensuring reliable and efficient operations of the HV Plant infrastructure, which plays a key role in South Africa’s electricity supply.
