The university offers a wide range of programs across various faculties, with the School of Accounting being particularly distinguished for producing competent professionals in the field.

    Overview of the Tegkor Accounting Bursary

    The Tegkor Accounting Bursary is designed to provide financial assistance to students pursuing accounting qualifications at NMU. The bursary aims to alleviate the financial burden on students, enabling them to focus on their studies and contribute meaningfully to the accounting profession.

    Fields of Study Covered

    The bursary is available to students enrolled in the following programs:

    • First-Year Students:
      • Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) in Accounting
      • BCom in Accounting Sciences
    • Second and Third-Year Students:
      • BCom in Accounting (Chartered Accounting)
      • BCom in General Accounting
      • BCom in Accounting Sciences (including the fourth year)
    • Postgraduate Students:
      • Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA-CTA)
      • Postgraduate Diploma in Accountancy (PGDA)
      • Postgraduate Diploma in Internal Auditing (PGDIA)

    Bursary Value

    The financial support provided varies based on the level of study:

    • First-Year Students: Up to R12,500
    • Second and Third-Year Students: Up to R7,500
    • Postgraduate Students: Up to R7,500

    Funds are directly credited to the student’s university account and can be combined with other bursaries or awards, provided they are declared during the application process.

    Eligibility Criteria

    Applicants must meet specific criteria to be considered for the bursary:

    First-Year Students

    • Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen.
    • Academic Achievement: Completion of Matric with:
      • A minimum of 80% in Mathematics, or
      • An Applicant Score (AS) of 420 or higher.
    • Admission Status: Acceptance into the BCom Accounting or BCom Accounting Sciences program at NMU for full-time first-year study in 2025.
    • Financial Need: Preference is given to students classified within the “missing middle,” with a household income between R350,000 and R600,000 per annum.

    Second and Third-Year Students

    • Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen.
    • Current Enrollment: Full-time study in 2025 towards:
      • BCom in General Accounting
      • BCom in Accounting (Chartered Accounting)
      • BCom in Accounting Sciences
    • Academic Performance: Achieved:
      • A minimum average of 70% in first-year modules (2024), or
      • A minimum average of 65% in second-year modules (2024).
    • Social Commitment: Demonstrated significant contribution to society or community service in 2024, supported by documented evidence.
    • Financial Need: Preference for students within the “missing middle” income bracket.

    Postgraduate Students

    • Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen.
    • Current Enrollment: Full-time study in 2025 towards:
      • Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA-CTA)
      • Postgraduate Diploma in Accountancy (PGDA)
      • Postgraduate Diploma in Internal Auditing (PGDIA)
    • Academic Performance: Achieved:
      • A weighted average of 60% or higher in the third year of undergraduate studies, or
      • A weighted average of 55% in a PGDA program.
    • Financial Need: Preference for students within the “missing middle” income bracket.

    Application Process

    To apply for the Tegkor Accounting Bursary, follow these steps:

    1. Obtain the Application Form: Download the application form from the NMU School of Accounting website or contact the bursary administrator.
    2. Complete the Application Form: Provide accurate personal and academic information as requested.
    3. Prepare Supporting Documents: Gather necessary documents, including:
      • Certified copy of your ID
      • Academic transcripts or Matric certificate
      • Proof of household income (e.g., payslips, affidavits)
      • Evidence of community service or social commitment (for second and third-year students)
    4. Submit the Application: Email the completed application form and supporting documents to the designated bursary administrator before the closing date.
