    General Worker Job Description

    The primary purpose of this position is to maintain good and healthy conditions in and around various transport facilities and premises within the City of Tshwane’s jurisdiction. This includes tasks related to cleaning, upkeep, and general maintenance of these areas to ensure they meet acceptable standards for public use.

    Responsibilities

    As a General Worker for the City of Tshwane’s Transport Facilities Management, you will be responsible for the following duties:

    1. Daily Upkeep of Facilities: Ensure that facilities are clean and in good condition by conducting routine inspections and cleaning.
    2. Litter Picking and Sweeping: You will be responsible for keeping the premises free from litter and ensuring the surrounding areas of the facility are neat and clean.
    3. Grass Cutting and Flowerbed Maintenance: This includes tasks like cutting grass, weeding plants, and cleaning flowerbeds in and around pavements and walkways.
    4. Cleaning Buildings: Maintaining cleanliness within the transport facilities, including the ablution areas.
    5. Loading and Unloading Objects: Assist with transporting and handling various objects within the facilities.
    6. Emptying Small Bins: Ensure that bins located in and around the transport facilities are emptied regularly to maintain hygiene standards.
    7. Removing Waste: This involves getting rid of waste and dumping around the facility in an appropriate and environmentally friendly manner.
    8. Handling Small Equipment and Machinery: You will be expected to use small machinery and equipment to perform your duties effectively.

    Additionally, you must be willing to be transferred to any region of Tshwane, based on the needs of the department.

    Requirements

    To apply for this role, you must meet the following requirements:

    1. Basic Literacy: While no formal education is required, you must be able to read and understand instructions.
    2. Relevant Experience: Any prior experience in cleaning or working in a similar environment will be an added advantage.
    3. Physical Fitness: You must be physically capable of handling strenuous activities over extended periods.
    4. Willingness to Work Odd Hours: This includes the ability to work shifts, be on standby, and work overtime when necessary.
