HV Cable Electrician Job Purpose
The role of the HV Cable Electrician is to ensure an efficient and reliable high-voltage cable network. This involves tasks such as construction, maintenance, and repair of high-voltage cables and associated equipment. Key Responsibility Areas
- Construction and Maintenance
- Perform construction, maintenance, operation, and repair of high-voltage cables, including solid, XLPE, gas pressure-filled, and fluid pressure-filled types.
- Work with low-voltage to 132 kV cables and associated apparatus.
- Administrative Functions
- Handle records and documentation to ensure smooth workflow and compliance.
- Safety and Training
- Implement safety measures and practices in the workplace.
- Train and mentor team members to improve overall technical competencies.
- Other Duties
- Undertake related tasks to support the electricity unit’s overall goals.
Special Conditions
- Work Hours: 40 hours per week (5-day workweek).
- Shift Work: As required by the employment contract.
- Overtime: May be required to meet service demands.
- Location: Subject to transfer/relocation within the Electricity Unit’s depots or divisions.

- Possess a valid Code EB or EC1 (10) driving license or obtain one within six months of appointment.
- Hold a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) or acquire it within six months if required.
- Be trained in First Aid or complete training within six months of appointment.
- Pass a proficiency test set by the department.
- Have at least 2 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualification:
- 3 years of relevant experience.
