If so, the South African Police Service (SAPS) invites you to apply for the position of Registered Counsellor/Psychometrist/Psychologist (Warrant Officer) at their Psychological Services, Head Office in Pretoria. This is an incredible opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team dedicated to supporting SAPS members and promoting psychological resilience.


    Registered Counsellor Job Details

    • Position Title: Registered Counsellor/Psychometrist/Psychologist (Warrant Officer)
    • Location: SAPS Psychological Services, Head Office, Pretoria
    • Remuneration: Band B1 – R335,787 per annum
    • Reference Number: HRM 06/2024 (1 Post)
    • Application Closing Date: 31 December 2024, 16:00

    Generic Requirements

    To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

    • Education: Possess a Senior Certificate (Grade 12).
    • Language Proficiency: Be proficient in at least two official languages, including English.
    • Citizenship: South African citizen with no criminal record or pending criminal/departmental cases.
    • Skills: Display excellent computer literacy, organizational abilities, communication, interpersonal, analytical, self-management, and problem-solving skills.
    • Additional: Must hold a valid light vehicle driver’s license and be willing to travel extensively.
    • Appearance: No visible tattoos when wearing the SAPS uniform.
    • Screening: Subject to a vetting process, including fingerprint verification and security screening.

    Additional Qualifications and Requirements

    Applicants are expected to hold the following qualifications:

    • Educational Requirements: Honours Degree in any category of Psychology (NQF level 8, SAQA-accredited). A Master’s Degree or higher will be advantageous.
    • Professional Registration: Must be registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and provide proof of paid annual fees for the 2024/2025 financial year.
    • Relevant Experience:
      • Offering counseling, care, and support services.
      • Facilitating programs and conducting group sessions.
      • Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).

    Core Responsibilities

    In this role, the successful candidate will:

    • Facilitate assessment centers and administer psychometric assessments.
    • Conduct organizational diagnoses and team-building initiatives.
    • Work collaboratively with the Employee Health and Wellness (EHW) team.
    • Enhance members’ mental well-being through personalized interventions.
    • Manage and market mental health-related projects and initiatives.
    • Develop and deliver presentations and reports.
    • Collect, analyze, and interpret data to improve organizational outcomes.

    2. Complete the Form: Ensure all sections of the form are accurately completed.
    3. Attach Curriculum Vitae (CV): A comprehensive CV must be included with the application form.
    4. Submit Applications:
      • Hand Deliver: Submit at Koedoe Building, 236 Pretorius Street, Pretoria. Deposit the form in the box available at the reception area.

    Selection Process

    • Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews.
    • Shortlisted candidates must provide proof of qualifications, a valid driver’s license, and identity documents during the interview process.
    • Candidates must also undergo:
      • Fingerprint screening.
      • A buccal sample for forensic DNA profiling.
      • Security vetting, including checks against the National Register for Sex Offenders and Child Protection Register.
      • Disclosure of any protection orders under the Domestic Violence Act, 1998, or Protection from Harassment Act, 2011.
