Key Responsibilities

As a Junior Librarian: Scholarly Communication, you will be responsible for various tasks related to digital repositories and academic resources. Your duties will include:

  1. Content and Metadata Management:
    • Overseeing digital repositories and ensuring effective metadata management.
    • Organizing digital archives and scholarly communication materials.
  2. E-Journal Management Support:
    • Assisting in the administration of the e-journal management platform.
    • Supporting faculty and researchers in accessing and managing e-journal content.
  3. Administrative Support for Digital Repositories:
    • Handling administrative tasks related to digital repository maintenance.
    • Providing necessary support for data curation and knowledge management.
  4. Digitisation and Digital Access Support:
    • Assisting in the digitisation of academic materials.
    • Ensuring smooth access to digital scholarly resources.
  5. General Administrative Duties:
    • Performing administrative tasks related to library services.
    • Collaborating with library staff and academic researchers.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following job requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science, OR a bachelor’s degree with a postgraduate diploma in Library and Information Science, OR an equivalent degree in:
    • Informatics
    • Knowledge Management
    • Data Curation
    • Data Science
  • At least three years of relevant experience in an academic or research library.
  • A high level of computer literacy.
  • Experience and knowledge of digitisation processes and digital repository management.
  • Familiarity with e-journal management systems and practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

While not mandatory, the following recommendations will give you a competitive edge:

  • Knowledge of DSpace and OJS digital systems.
  • An understanding of the scholarly communication process.
  • The ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
