    Polokwane Local Office is seeking a dedicated and experienced Legal Practitioner specializing in Criminal Law to join our team at the High Court level. As part of the esteemed Legal Aid organization, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring access to justice for all members of society, particularly those in need of legal representation.


    Legal Practitioner Vacancy Overview:

    • Job Title: High Court  Legal Practitioner – Criminal
    • Reference Number: PLK/HCLP-CRIM/17/05/2024
    • Salary: LP-7 (R884,268.00) all-inclusive package per annum
    • Location: Polokwane Local Office
    • Closing Date: 05 June 2024

    Key Outputs

    1. Provide Legal Representation to Indigent Accused Persons at High Court Level

    • Preparing and presenting cases in court.
    • Conducting thorough legal research and gathering evidence.
    • Interviewing clients and witnesses to build a strong defense.
    • Drafting legal documents and pleadings.
    • Advocating on behalf of clients during trials and hearings.

    2. Handle Complex Criminal High Court Matters

    • Taking on high-profile and challenging cases that set legal precedents.
    • Developing comprehensive legal strategies tailored to each case.
    • Collaborating with forensic experts, investigators, and other professionals to gather detailed evidence.
    • Keeping abreast of the latest legal developments and case law that impact criminal defense.

    3. Train and Supervise Candidate Attorneys

    • Providing hands-on training in legal procedures, case management, and court appearances.
    • Offering constructive feedback and performance evaluations.
    • Sharing your knowledge and experience through workshops, seminars, and one-on-one mentoring sessions.
    • Ensuring that candidate attorneys adhere to professional and ethical standards.

    4. Perform Office Administration Tasks

    • Managing case files and legal documentation.
    • Scheduling court dates, meetings, and appointments.
    • Coordinating with administrative staff to ensure smooth office operations.
    • Handling correspondence and communication with clients, courts, and other stakeholders.
    • Maintaining accurate records and databases for case tracking and reporting.

    5. Represent Women, Children, and Landless People in Criminal Matters

    • Providing specialized legal services to women, children, and landless individuals who are accused of crimes.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Admitted Attorney or Advocate (the latter must have completed pupillage successfully at an institution recognised by Legal Aid SA).
    • Legal representation at High Court level.
    • Minimum of at least seven (7) years of post-qualification experience of which five (5) years must be post-admission experience.
    • A minimum of four (4) years of High Court experience, or a minimum of six (6) years of Regional Court experience.
    • LLB degree.
    • Proven track record in criminal matters at High Court level.
    • Right of appearance in High Court.
    • Valid driver’s licence will be an advantage.
