This role is crucial in maintaining the financial health and sustainability of CIDB by ensuring accurate billing, effective revenue collection, and comprehensive financial administration.

    Role of a Revenue Officer

    A Revenue Officer is a professional responsible for managing and ensuring the accuracy of an organization’s financial records, particularly those related to revenue collection and billing. They play a crucial role in maintaining the financial health of the organization by ensuring timely collection of debts, accurate billing processes, and thorough financial administration.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Debtor Reconciliation

    • Responsibilities:
      • Call customers to collect outstanding debt
      • Record all interactions on debtor’s spreadsheet
      • Provide Revenue Accountant with updated information received
      • Responsible for telephonic follow-up
      • Print statement with movement on the account
      • Ensure that all payments are reflected on the statement
      • Check the physical file against the electronic file
      • Verify that the account balances

    Billing

    • Responsibilities:
      • Ensure that revenue projections are met
      • Handle pre-sales billing due process
      • Attain approval from the Revenue Accountant for valid sales and decline invalid sales orders
      • Correct all declined sales orders and liaise with the Revenue Accountant
      • Report on approved and declined orders

    Administration

    • Responsibilities:
      • Administer and monitor the financial system to ensure accurate and timely maintenance of cidb’s finances
      • Process financial documents in accordance with financial regulations
      • Clean suspense accounts and capture journals
      • Ensure correct information is captured on the system
      • Handle audit queries (internal and external)
      • Attend to all queries related to revenue on different financial matters

    Requirements

    • Education and/or Experience:
      • National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in accounting or a finance-related field
      • At least six months to one-year related experience

    Key Responsibilities

    Debtor Reconciliation

    Revenue Officers are tasked with maintaining up-to-date records of all interactions with customers regarding outstanding debts. This includes making calls to collect debts, recording these interactions, and ensuring that all payments are correctly reflected on the customer’s statements. They must also verify that physical and electronic files match and that account balances are accurate.

    Billing Management

    They ensure that revenue projections are met by handling the pre-sales billing process. This involves obtaining approval for valid sales orders, correcting invalid sales orders, and reporting on both approved and declined orders. Their role is critical in ensuring that the billing process runs smoothly and efficiently.

    Financial Administration

    A Revenue Officer administers and monitors the financial system to maintain accurate records of the organization’s finances. This includes processing financial documents according to regulations, cleaning suspense accounts, capturing journals, and handling audit queries. They ensure that all financial information is correctly captured and that all queries related to revenue are addressed promptly.

    Skills and Qualifications

    Educational Requirements

    To qualify for this position, a candidate must hold a National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in accounting or a finance-related field. This educational background provides the necessary knowledge and skills to manage financial records and processes effectively.

    Experience

    A minimum of six months to one year of related experience is required. This experience helps candidates familiarize themselves with financial systems, debtor reconciliation, billing processes, and financial administration.
