    Rhodes University is currently seeking a skilled and experienced Lead IT Support Technician to advance its IT operations and support services. In this pivotal role, the successful candidate will oversee technical support, ensure the smooth functioning of IT systems, and contribute to the university’s mission of delivering exceptional educational experiences.


    With a focus on technology and leadership, the Lead IT Support Technician will play a crucial role within the university’s dynamic IT team.

    Rhodes University Lead IT Support Technician Role Overview

    • Position: Lead IT Support Technician
    • Location: Rhodes University, Makhanda, Eastern Cape
    • Type: Permanent

    Requirements

    • Education: Grade 12.
    • Experience: At least 7 years in a service-related IT environment with significant experience in planning and organizing service delivery.
    • Supervisory Experience: Minimum of 1 year or possession of the RU Supervision Certificate.
    • Administrative Skills: Proven experience in administrative roles.

    Key Responsibilities of the Lead IT Support Technician

    • Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and support to the IT team, ensuring all systems and services are maintained to a high standard.
    • Problem Resolution: Address complex technical issues escalated by Tech I and Tech II staff, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
    • System Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and updating of IT systems to ensure reliability and security.
    • User Support: Ensure high-quality support services for university staff and students, addressing IT-related inquiries and issues promptly.
    • Training and Development: Conduct regular training sessions for IT staff to keep them updated on the latest technologies and best practices.
    • Project Management: Lead IT projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required standard.
    • Policy Implementation: Ensure compliance with university IT policies and contribute to their development and improvement.

    Selection Process

    • Short-listing (date to be confirmed).
    • Assessment/presentation and interview.
    • Shortlisted candidates will be notified of interview dates.

    Remuneration:

    • Basic Pensionable Salary: R511,439 per annum.
    • Cost to Company: Approximately R672,381 per annum.
