Key Responsibilities:
Accessibility Services:
- Facilitate the registration of students with disabilities.
- Provide support (online, in-person, individual, and group) for students with disabilities.
- Develop or revise protocols for Disability Unit services.
- Manage assistive devices and software, including acquisition, distribution, and maintenance.
- Oversee equipment usage and provide training in assistive technology.
- Handle bursary administration and communication with publishers for electronic books.
Concession Support:
- Coordinate accommodations for students with disabilities.
- Review and moderate concession applications and documentation.
- Contribute to the annual review and improvement of concession processes.
Liaison and Service Delivery:
- Liaise with various university divisions to enhance service delivery.
- Identify psycho-educative topics and manage inter-faculty referrals.
- Maintain communication with students and stakeholders.
Disability Awareness and Psychoeducation:
- Develop and present workshops on disability awareness.
- Promote sensitivity and etiquette towards students with disabilities.
- Coordinate projects and marketing efforts related to disability awareness.
Crisis Intervention:
- Manage and refer students with disabilities in crisis to appropriate services.
Accessible Assessment Coordination:
- Coordinate logistics for accessible assessments, including booking readers, scribes, and invigilators.
Professional Administration:
- Perform routine administrative tasks such as diary management, record keeping, report writing, and handling inquiries.
- Ensure adherence to UJ policies and legislation.
Community Engagement, Research, and Liaison:
- Engage in research projects and CE initiatives.
- Participate in UJ events and contribute to departmental functions.
Minimum Requirements:
- NQF Level 6 qualification in IT/Computer Science/Information Science or a related field.
- Two years of experience supporting students with disabilities and implementing assistive technology.
- Experience in concession support and using online/cloud platforms.
Recommendations:
- Honours Degree in Technology/Computer Science/Information Science (NQF Level 8).
- Experience in higher education institutions.
- Proficiency in South African Sign Language and social media.
Key Competencies:
- Proficient in MS Office/365 and other relevant software.
- Knowledge of assistive technology and organizations for persons with disabilities.
- Skills in training, administration, and report writing.
