TuksFM, the University of Pretoria’s student-run radio station, is looking for a dynamic and motivated Sales Assistant to join their team on a one-year contract.     Sales Assistant Job Purpose

    The Sales Assistant at TuksFM is responsible for generating revenue by selling advertising space to businesses. This role requires an energetic and persuasive individual who can identify new business opportunities, maintain strong relationships with clients, and ensure that sales targets are met.

    The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and a deep understanding of how radio advertising can be used effectively in marketing campaigns. You will also be expected to oversee sales-related events and maintain accurate sales records.

    Key Responsibilities

    If you are considering applying for this position, here’s what will be expected of you:

    1. Sales Management and Revenue Generation

    • Understand and promote TuksFM’s advertising services to businesses.
    • Conduct research to identify potential clients and understand their marketing needs.
    • Generate sales leads and convert them into long-term clients.
    • Meet and exceed monthly and annual sales targets.

    2. Client Relationship Management

    • Maintain good relationships with current clients and ensure they are updated on the station’s advertising offerings.
    • Build new client relationships and explore partnership opportunities.
    • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction to encourage repeat business.

    3. Sales Administration and Reporting

    • Maintain accurate records of client information and sales transactions.
    • Prepare sales presentations and proposals.
    • Ensure timely reporting of sales performance and revenue.

    4. Event Planning and Coordination

    • Plan and execute sales-related events that benefit both the client and the station.
    • Work closely with other departments to ensure the success of promotional campaigns.

    Minimum Requirements

    To be considered for this position, you must meet the following minimum requirements:

    • Matric certificate (Grade 12).
    • Two years of sales experience, preferably in radio sales.
    • Valid driver’s license with own transport.

    Desired Skills and Competencies

    TuksFM is looking for a candidate who possesses the following skills:

    • A good understanding of radio advertising and how it can benefit businesses.
    • Knowledge of different sellable features in radio, digital, and on-the-ground marketing.
    • Strong administrative and organizational skills.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
    • Ability to network and build strong business relationships.
    • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
    • Willing to work overtime and weekends if required.
    • Willingness to travel for client meetings and presentations.

    Additional Advantages

    Although not required, the following qualifications and experience will be an added advantage:

    • A diploma or course in sales or marketing.
    • An existing client base in the advertising industry.
    • Experience in radio advertising campaigns.
    • Understanding of the radio industry landscape.
