    The Mpumalanga Department of Health is extending an invitation for applications for the position of Social Worker. This opportunity offers a chance to contribute significantly to community-focused healthcare initiatives.


    The department seeks dedicated individuals who are passionate about social work and committed to improving community well-being. Candidates who demonstrate empathy, proactivity, and proficiency in delivering social services are encouraged to apply.

    Social Worker Position Overview:

    • Salary Range: R308,247 – R362,439 per annum.
    • Centre: H A Grove Hospital, located in the Nkangala District.
    • Closing Date: 05 July 2024.
    • Reference Number: MPDoH/June/24/101

    Requirements:

    Educational Qualifications:

    • Senior Certificate / Grade 12.
    • Degree in Social Work or Social Science.
    • Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) as a Social Worker (valid for 2024).

    Knowledge and Experience:

    • Proficiency in mediation techniques.
    • Knowledge and experience in counseling clients.
    • Court experience in providing expert evidence.

    Legal Knowledge:

    • Familiarity with family law, including the Mediation in Certain Divorce Matters Act, Children’s Act, Maintenance Act, and Domestic Violence Act (including the Hague Convention on International Child Abduction).

    Skills and Competences:

    • Proficiency in computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Abilities in mediation, interviewing, conflict resolution, and evaluation.
    • Strong report writing skills with attention to detail.
    • Competence in diversity and conflict management.

    Responsibilities:

    • Mediation and Inquiry Responsibilities: Conduct mediation and inquiries as part of a multidisciplinary team. Address matters such as care, contact, guardianship, relocation, child abduction, and related family law disputes.
    • Forensic Court Reports: Evaluate information and compile forensic court reports. Make recommendations in the best interest of the child in family law disputes.
    • Expert Witness Role: Act as an expert witness for the family advocate in court proceedings.
    • Office of the Advocate Support: Assist beneficiaries in understanding the functions and role of the office of the advocate.
    • Field Work: Travel to conduct inquiries and interview parties, as well as gather references related to family law disputes.
    • Case Management: Manage allocated cases and strive to achieve set targets.
    • Counselling Responsibilities: Provide counselling services to mental health care users and HIV-positive patients.
    • Family Tracing and Counselling: Trace family members of clients and provide counselling to the family of deceased clients.

    Social Worker Position Application process:

    • Applicants are encouraged to apply early to avoid disappointment.
    • Submission of copies of qualifications and other documents is not required initially; however, applicants must submit a completed Z83 form and a detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV).
    • To streamline administrative processes and reduce costs for applicants, departments will request certified copies of qualifications and relevant documents from shortlisted candidates only. These should be submitted to HR before the interview, following communication from the relevant HR section.
    • For health/engineering posts advertised within the department, professional registration with various statutory councils is mandatory for shortlisted candidates.
    • Each application must include a complete set of documents for the desired post, clearly stating the full post description and relevant Post Reference Number.
    • Fax applications will not be accepted; only online applications via www.mpuhealth.gov.za will be considered.
    • Applicants must fully complete and sign form Z83, even when attaching a CV. Incomplete or unsigned applications will not be considered.
    • Current employees should indicate their PERSAL number at the top of form Z83.
    • The department reserves the right to withdraw any advertised post at any time due to ongoing internal processes.
    • Qualifications of recommended candidates will be verified before any offer of appointment is made.
    • Short-listed candidates will undergo a vetting process before final appointment.
    • Applicants should assume their application was unsuccessful if no response is received from the Mpumalanga Department of Health within 90 days after the closing date of the advertisement.
    • Correct references must be quoted in applications, along with the station/centre where the post is located.
    • The department reserves the right to amend, review, or withdraw advertised posts in the best interest of the department.
