    • Salary: ZAR574,463 – ZAR781,364 per annum, plus a medical aid subsidy.

    The SIU has announced multiple permanent vacancies for Forensic Lawyers across different provinces in South Africa. These positions are vital to the SIU’s mandate to investigate and take legal action against corruption and maladministration in government institutions.

    The SIU is also hiring Forensic Lawyers for other provinces, including Kimberley, Mafikeng, Polokwane, Nelspruit, East London, and more, under similar terms and conditions.

    Purpose of the Forensic Lawyer Role

    The primary responsibility of a Forensic Lawyer within the SIU is to conduct forensic legal services to meet specific deliverables. This involves providing high-quality forensic legal specialist services during investigations into maladministration and corruption at various levels of government. These investigations are part of a Multi-disciplinary Approach (MDA) to ensure thorough and effective outcomes.

    Requirements

    To be eligible for these positions, candidates must meet the following requirements:

    • Educational Qualification: A B. Degree in Law (NQF 7).
    • Professional Status: Must be admitted as an Attorney or Advocate.
    • Experience: At least three years of relevant legal experience in forensics, with a preference for experience in public sector investigations.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Forensic Lawyers at the SIU will be expected to:

    1. Conduct Forensic Legal Investigations: This includes handling provincial, national, and strategic projects, ensuring investigations are thorough and meet legal standards.
    2. Participation in Remedial Action Proceedings: Lawyers will be involved in proceedings that follow from investigations, ensuring that the law is applied effectively to remediate issues identified.
    3. Forensic Legal Area Compliance: Ensuring that all legal processes and investigations comply with relevant laws and regulations.

    Technical Skills Required

    Successful candidates will need to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

    • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify issues and find effective legal solutions.
    • Analytical Thinking: Skills in analyzing complex information and drawing logical conclusions.
    • Communication: Strong oral and written communication skills, essential for report writing and presenting findings.

    • Forensic Legal Principles: Expertise in forensic legal principles and their application in investigations.
    • Legislation: In-depth knowledge of applicable legislation, including Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, and the Law of Evidence.
    • Public Sector Legal Environment: Familiarity with the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA), Treasury Regulations, and other relevant directives.
    • Ethics: A strong understanding of ethical standards and practices.
    • IT and Financial Systems: Basic knowledge of IT systems and financial processes.
    • Project Management: Awareness of project management principles and practices.
