Purpose of the Compliance Manager Role
As the Compliance Manager, your main objective is to manage compliance and monitoring processes within the social housing sector. The role ensures that regulated institutions and agents adhere to the Social Housing Act and related legislation.
Key Responsibilities
- Compliance Planning and Management:
- Develop and implement compliance plans and monitoring frameworks.
- Ensure regulated institutions align with the Social Housing Act.
- Remediate instances of non-compliance and recommend enforcement measures.
- Team and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Lead and manage the compliance team effectively.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including legal and accreditation managers, SHIs, ODAs, and government departments.
- Risk Management and Reporting:
- Review compliance data to identify and mitigate risks.
- Draft and present compliance reports, highlighting actionable insights.
- Ensure the dissemination of findings to stakeholders.
- Operational Oversight:
- Manage interventions for non-compliant entities.
- Oversee service providers supporting compliance functions.
- Conduct sector audits and enforce corrective actions when required.
- Staff Development:
- Build team capacity through training, mentoring, and performance evaluations.
- Ensure alignment of team goals with SHRA’s strategic objectives.
Organisational Structure
Reporting directly to the Compliance, Accreditation, and Regulations Executive, the Compliance Manager leads a team comprising Compliance Officers and a Business Analyst. The role also collaborates with regulations and accreditation specialists to ensure robust compliance processes.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Essential: NQF Level 7 (Bachelor’s degree in Law, Commerce, Business Management, or Auditing).
- Preferred: Postgraduate degree in Commerce or Legal studies.
- Advantageous: Certification from the Compliance Institute of South Africa (CISA).
Experience:
- 6–8 years of experience in legal, auditing, or compliance management.
- At least 2 years in a supervisory or specialist role.
Skills:
- Strong analytical and leadership skills.
- Excellent communication abilities for stakeholder engagement.
- Proficient in developing and implementing compliance systems.
