Student Development Officer Job Description
The Student Development Officer (SDF) is responsible for managing the operational aspects of the Local Student Representative Council (SRC) and other student structures at the campus level. The role focuses on promoting effective student governance, leadership, and engagement, enhancing the overall student experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate and manage student governance operations and maintain accurate databases for effective record-keeping.
- Develop innovative programs that align with the SRC’s objectives and empower students through leadership and personal development initiatives.
- Provide ad hoc counseling to students, helping them navigate responsibilities and academic challenges.
- Manage financial and procurement processes related to student projects, ensuring compliance with university policies.
- Foster partnerships with internal departments and external community stakeholders, strengthening ties and enhancing the university’s visibility in governance initiatives.
- Oversee the training and development of SRC members, cultivating their leadership potential.
- Support student organizations, including political and cultural groups, while managing the complexities of campus student governance.
- Advocate for students by staying informed about national and institutional policies and regulations affecting student life and governance.
Requirements
To qualify for the role, you should meet the following criteria:
- A three-year qualification in Social Science, Leadership Development, or a related field.
- At least three years of experience in Student Governance with a proven track record in initiating and managing programs for SRCs.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Understanding of student needs and governance issues in a university setting.
- Familiarity with the Higher Education Act, university statutes, and other student governance frameworks.
