Investigation Officer Job Description
As an Investigation Officer, you will report to the Deputy Director of Security Services. Your primary responsibilities will include investigating criminal incidents, behavioral misconduct, and security irregularities while advising on crime prevention and safety measures.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct investigations into criminal activities, misconduct, and security-related issues.
- Provide support in disciplinary processes, including witness preparation and evidence presentation.
- Assist in drafting charges for disciplinary hearings.
- Carry out crime prevention awareness campaigns across the campus.
- Perform risk analysis and security surveys to identify vulnerabilities.
- Adhere to health, safety, and environmental (SHE) policies and procedures.
- Compile detailed strategic and operational reports as needed.
- Contribute to enhancing SMU’s institutional culture through active involvement in developmental initiatives.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Line Manager.
Minimum Qualifications
- Educational Background: Grade 12 certificate with security training and certification.
- Experience:
- At least 3 years in security and investigation.
- At least 2 years in public policing (e.g., SAPS) or related fields.
- License: A valid South African light motor vehicle driver’s license.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word and Excel).
- Willingness to acquire PSIRA Grade B certification post-appointment.
- Background Check: Must have no criminal record, pending or convicted.
