If you have a SASSA/Postbank gold card that is going to expire on 31 March 2023, you need to take action to get a new card. The South African Post Bank (SAPO) has provided a plan for exchanging the old card for a new one, and the process varies depending on the type of grant you receive.
SAPO’s Plan for Renewing Your SASSA/Postbank Gold Card
To get the new SASSA gold card, if you receive Older Persons and Disability-related grants, you need to visit your nearest SAPO branch on Mondays and Tuesdays starting from 13 March 2023. However, if you receive Child Support Grants and all other grants, you should visit your nearest SAPO branch from Wednesdays to Saturdays starting from 15 March 2023.
When you visit the SAPO branch, you must bring a copy of your ID and the expiring SASSA/SAPO gold card. It’s important to note that only those with SASSA/Postbank gold cards expiring in March 2023 need to visit the Post Office branches to collect new cards during this month.
If you have lost or misplaced your SASSA/Postbank gold card that expires in March 2023, you must also go to a nearby SAPO branch to collect your new SASSA/Postbank gold card, and the SAPO branch personnel will use fingerprint verification to issue you a new card.
It’s important to note that new SASSA/Postbank Gold cards will only be issued at SAPO branches to the person whose name the expiring card has been issued or only to those who have been registered at SASSA as procurators.
If your SASSA/Postbank gold card will expire in the next few months, the dates and processes for exchanging the card will be announced soon, and you should look out for those announcements.
