    Overview: The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development is seeking a dynamic and qualified individual to fill the position of Director: Language Services and Interpreting. This crucial role involves overseeing language interpretation services in court proceedings, implementing language policies, ensuring the quality of court interpreting and translation services, and managing the development of sign language interpreting. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving effective people management, strategic leadership, and adherence to legal and regulatory frameworks.

    Requirements:
    • An undergraduate qualification (NQF level 7) in Legal Interpreting, Language Practice, Linguistics, or a relevant field, recognized by SAQA.
    • 5 years of experience at a middle/senior managerial level, with at least 3 years in the language and interpreting environment.
    • Nyukela Certificate (senior management service entry certificate from the National School of Government).
    • Profound knowledge of the legislative framework governing the Public Service, including financial management, regulatory guidelines, and relevant acts and regulations.
    • Familiarity with Criminal, Civil, Family, and Constitutional law cases, as well as policy development.
    Key Responsibilities:
    • Manage language interpretation services during court proceedings.
    • Implement and oversee the execution of language policies within the Department.
    • Coordinate, report, and analyse court interpreting and translation information.
    • Ensure quality assurance for court interpreting and translation services.
    • Develop and implement sign language interpreting services.
    • Foster effective people management practices.

    Administrative Officer – Magistrate Court, Pietermaritzburg – Department of Justice and Constitutional Development

    Salary: R359,517 – R420,402 per annum

    Overview: The Magistrate Court in Pietermaritzburg is seeking an accomplished Administrative Officer to manage various operational and administrative functions within the court. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in coordinating financial and human resources, overseeing risk and security management, facilitating strategic and business planning, and administering critical court support services.

    Requirements:
    • National Diploma/Degree in Public Administration/Public Management or equivalent (NQF level 6).
    • 3 years of administration experience.
    • Knowledge of Human Resource Management, Supply Chain Management, and Risk Management.
    • Familiarity with the Public Finance Management Act, Financial Management (Vote and Trust Account), Departmental Financial Instructions, BAS, and Justice Yellow Pages (JYP).
    Key Responsibilities:
    • Coordinate and manage the financial and human resources of the court office.
    • Oversee risk and security management within the court.
    • Manage the strategic and business planning process.
    • Supervise the Criminal and Civil Court Administration Section, including the Family Court and Supply Chain.
    • Administer Third Party Funds and Vote Accounts for the office.
    • Coordinate, manage, and administer support services to Case Flow Management and other court users.

    Senior Court Interpreter – Magistrate Court, Port Shepstone – Department of Justice and Constitutional Development

    Salary: R294,321 – R343,815 per annum

    Overview: The Magistrate Court in Port Shepstone is seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Court Interpreter to play a crucial role in ensuring effective communication and language interpretation within the court proceedings. The successful candidate will oversee a team of interpreters, provide interpretation services, translate legal documents, and contribute to the management of personnel administrative aspects.

    Requirements:

    • Grade 12 and National Diploma in Legal Interpreting or an equivalent qualification in languages, with a minimum of three years practical experience in court interpreting; OR Grade 12 and ten years of practical experience in court interpreting.
    • Proficiency in English and proficiency in two or more indigenous languages (IsiXhosa and IsiZulu).
    • A valid driver’s license would be an added advantage.

    • Manage and supervise a team of interpreters.

    Overview: The Provincial Office in Durban is seeking a qualified and experienced Legal Administration Officer to take on responsibilities related to managing state losses, overseeing projects involving vulnerable groups, and ensuring the implementation of legislation aimed at safeguarding the rights of these groups. The successful candidate will contribute to the strategic responsibilities of various courts, handle petitions and complaints, and provide crucial support in matters of civil rights and justice.

    Requirements:
    • LLB degree or a 4-year recognised legal qualification.
    • A minimum of two (2) years’ appropriate post-qualification legal experience.
    • Profound knowledge of the South African Legal system.
    • Familiarity with the principles of Batho Pele, Victim’s Charter, and Restorative Justice.
    • A valid driver’s license.
    • Knowledge of legislation affecting vulnerable groups.

    • Identify and conduct training for officials dealing with Vulnerable Groups in courts.
    • Monitor and oversee special projects involving Gender, Persons with Disabilities, and the Elderly.

    • Support and oversee strategic responsibilities in Regional Civil Courts, Sexual Offences Courts, Small Claims Courts, Equality Courts, and Restorative Justice.
    • Address petitions, representations, and complaints from the public, civil society, and other Government Departments.
